They're definitely willing to listen. I got my 07 CS with 6K miles for just over $20K

Tell em there's another dealership that agreed to X amount for basically "the same car". If they say they can't do that, walk out. I bet there's a good chance that they'll chase you down and try to work something out.

+1 walk in with a price you have in mind that you're willing to spend. Find the car you want, tell them the price and ask if they can do that. If they can't, move on to the next dealership and give them that same car info. Keep going till you find a dealership who will do it. Got my new 07 for 23.5k that way.

I'd bet the dealership either wouldn't notice, or wouldn't care about the exhaust being o/r

One of my good family friends in Orlando kinda did that.

He walked into a dealership, started talking to the guy about this truck he wanted. He was like "I'll give you $25K for it right now"

The salesman was like "Oh, no...we can't do that"

So he went across the street, and started talking to a guy that had a truck EXACTLY like the one he was JUST looking at. They got to talking about price, and he was like "That dealership right there *points to the one he just came from* said they'd give me this exact same truck for $25K"

He ended up taking that one home for $23k. Sticker was like $32K

I was dying when he told me that store.

it's better to sell the car outright and use the cash for a down payment than do a trade in. they never give you what you want and when they do you're not really coming out ahead because they have too many ways to make up the difference. you're most likely going to have better luck negotiating the sale price if you have $6k cash rather than a $6k trade in

I would do that in a heart beat, problem is I owe more on my car than than it's worth. Only way to get rid of it is for them to take the hit.

Hehe, well we didn't stretch the truth like that when I bought mine, but pretty similar. Ended up going to 3 different dealerships. Started at the first, found a car on the lot I liked, sat down and said we knew what invoice was on that exact car, and we would pay, in full, right now and leave with it if we could get it for 3% under invoice. He went to his manager, they said they could only do 1.5%, so we walked out.

Went to 2nd dealership, again found a car on the lot I liked, said the same thing and the sales manager actually scoffed at it. "Where do you get this 3% from? We sell these things well over invoice". We said, "Good for you, this is just the price we had in mind that we would be happy with right now, if we can't get it here or anywhere, then we'll have to relook at a different price." Walked out of that place.

Went to final dealership, found the car, same spiel. They said they could only do 2% but they also had some monthly special rebate going on that knocked an extra 500$ off which brought it down overall to over 3% under invoice. Walked out with a ~26k sticker car for only 23.5k. Not the greatest savings in the world, but it worked!

yeah. It didn't help that he did sales for the company he was with for like 25 years. He knew how to work people.

having cash in hand will always help too. also go at the end of the month. when we got my car it was the last day of the month, winter time, they were asking 12,900 and KBB was 9,500, we walked out with it for 8,050 in cash. they also put in a new battery and fixed the seatbelt. car only had 24,xxx miles and that was in 06

You really have to know what the dealership paid for the car, then add $500 to that and thats what you buy it for. Or work it out for an out the door price. Ive stolen some rides with the out the door shit. I love doing it but it has become such a fuckin hassle.
