External Hard Drives

For your sanity dont buy seagate freeagent drives. They are peices of crap. The one Im pulling data from dies about every 10 minutes or so. Weve ad two others die this week. Of course our western digital hard drive is going like a top for well over two years. If you own a seagate i suggest you transfer that crap now

Maxtor is owned by seagate. See a trend? LOL

I've had hard drives of all types go bad. Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital, although over the long haul I have had the best luck with WD.

I have a 320gb WD passport that basically has my life on it. It is the best external I've ever owned.

Same here ... It's funny to watch people argue about WD and Seagate though. I've had quite a few Seagates fail. I've had quite a few WD fail. I've got two WD 500gb hard drives in this computer though.

The girl in your avatar keeps teasing me.

When it comes to internal drives you guys should wait a year. A lot of those companies are going to start producing solid state hard drives. Gonna start seeing 1-5tb internal drives with no moving parts. only a matter of time until they make them external.

Yeah man. Own enough computers for long enough, and use them enough, and sooner or later something is going to fail. No matter who makes it.

I have WD's 10,000 rpm Raptor for my os in this one, along with a 250 wd, and I also have 3 500gb externals on my desk, all of which are down atm.....one is a Seagate, and the other two are WD.

^Not so good advice... unless you plan on spending over $500 on a SSD (solid state disk).

Currently a 16GB SSD HD is about $75.

And a 256GB SSD HD is about $465.

Now, I could be mistaken, but if you think you're going to get a 1TB-5TB SSD HD for less than $500 you're crazy. I don't know about you, but I can buy 2x 1TB HD's and mirror them for less than half the price of your one 1TB SSD HD.

Personally, I've heard WD are crap. I've haven't experienced anything myself. I have a Maxtor and and a Seagate and they've both run great for me.
