First off....DONT use those intercoolers...they are big pieces of shit and can cause your xbox to fail faster.

It doesn't have to be on for a long time to overheat...If there is something wrong such as processor shifting, it can overheat even with only 2 minutes of being on. I had one that would overheat and shut off as soon as it would be powered on

how is the intercooler bad? i had it laying around for a while but never used it, then my xbox started freezing and the red ring came, so i turned it off, and the next day i slapped the ic on, and got another month and a half out of it before it completely died. im fairly certain the ic extended its life

Yeah because blowing in dust faster fixes everything . There is actually a major problem with the IC's...I'm just too lazy to explain it. But to keep it simple...it'll make your xbox's power port go kaboom

The only real fix is to always keep your xbox in a well ventilated area. Also keep your xbox in the horizontal position at all times. Those 2 things alone should decrease the chance of failure by a lot.

But gray...once your xbox starts doing what it is now the only (real) fix there is is to get the CPU/GPU reflowed. I'd recommend calling up MS and getting it fixed asap (that is if you have warranty)

Nyko has recently released an updated Intercooler that uses its own power source. Nyko claims this problem no longer occurs with new versions of this cooler. However, Microsoft still considers it an unlicensed add-on and will void the warranty of machines showing signs of its use. There is no data available to indicate whether Intercooler decreases the chance of hardware failure.[23] But if it itself becomes defective it can hinder rather than help the overheating problems.

The game console heats up during use, and given enough time, the temperature inside can reach very high levels due to insufficient cooling. An overheated Xbox 360 is indicated by both left quadrants lighting up red. Because of the way the Xbox is constructed, this may result in stresses building up between the delicate ball grid array solder joints of the CPU and GPU and the motherboard, causing them to break. The problem is exacerbated by the specific type of lead-free solder used, a type which is more brittle than the older tin/lead solder that was used in the past and the GPU's location directly underneath the DVD drive. Microsoft needed to make room for the DVD Drive, so they shrunk the heat sink.[24]

The IC fucks it up because it pulls power from the sexbox.

I use and have always used a small separate fan and place it on top of my sexbox, and we have a launch unit that still works flawlessly.

+1, best way to cool it; keep it out of crammed areas where it can get sufficient airflow and put a mini fan in the back of it.

i use a big fan. well used one till i moved into my apartment. then a video card dies...

I think Im just going to cut giant holes in the case so it has plenty of ventilation. Or maybe just take the case off all togher so all the heat can escape.
