When the title said "Reverse Descrimination" I instantly thought about my application to the local Police force. Being that this is my first time applying for the Police Academy here and 75% of applicants are your typical white male... I'm screwed. I agree though, lets just hope he keeps half of his promises. If his bill to increase the number of Police Officers in cities doesnt go through, I may kill someone...

Having said that I'm sick of hearing about it. I've had every democrat in the state of Nebraska yelling in my face about how he won since the election and frankly I could care less. It's just another figure head. It just happens that this one has a different skin color than the 43 other.

I feel completely opposite, I think there's too much law enforcement in this country.

Maybe I just disagree with the laws being enforced, though; I also don't live in the city and assume the situation is very different there.

Where I'm at there is actually a serious shortage of police officers. We have about 800 sworn Police officers in the city I live in and they serve about 700,000 People. Thats not a lot of officers, and with growing crime rates, more police here would be a god send for everyone!

That's a terrible ratio. North Charleston, South Carolina has the 7th highest crime rate in the nation. There are more murders/rapes/assaults/thefts per population density then big cities. That just happens to be where I go to school. Since last year there has been a serious crack down and crime has actually gone down. All for more police as long as they aren't over zealous pricks.

Okay, that makes sense.

Back home, they have 7 or 8 highway patrol to cover one 12 mile stretch of road between two towns of less than 5k people. This doesn't count the Sheriff that also patrol the areas, or the municipal cops in the larger of the two towns, or the highway patrol for the areas on the other sides of either of the two towns. And no, there's nothing special about this section of road.

You are telling me... our Mayor is more concerned with a new baseball stadium (for the College World Series), a footbridge that leads to the other side of the river (who wants to go to Iowa anyways :p) and designer man hole covers than the infastructure required to keep the spectators of the College World Series safe from crime... They just delayed the start of the Police academy 6 months to free up more funding for frivolous expendatures. People have bassackwards priorities in this city and it's disturbing.

Sorry for the thread hijack. I will be glad once the "nastalgia" of having an african american president wears off so we can resume our daily lives doing the same thing we have been doing...

I'd say its time for a new mayor, but thats a foreign concept to us in Charleston. We've had the same mayor since my parents were kids. I joked about how he was the guy that started the civil war.

lol our mayor wants to raise bridge and tunnel tolls as well as put tolls on bridges that don't have one. He pretty much wants to fuck ANYONE who needs to leave brooklyn and go to staten island or manhattan. He also wanted to put a $20 fee on cars going into manhattan. The $10 tolls on the bridge I take to school everyday is enough and they wanted to raise that to $14 and then raise the price of public transportation. I think it all got shot down thankfully, but atleast the mets and yankees got a ton of money from the city for their stadiums. The tax payers should be happy that they want to raise taxes and tolls because we are billions in debt but the yankees and mets get a couple hundred million for stadiums LOL what a fucking joke

that is basically how it is in my town. the sad part is alot of the cops will harass people. i had a one that would follow me to work. idk why... but he always parked at the bank by my house and would follow me for 15 minutes to work. that shit stopped once i dated one of his fellow officer's daughter lol
