crash dump

ok its happened 4 times in the past 15 minutes. it has happened in the past but never this much. the computer freezes, then goes to a blue screen and goes into a physical crash dump, then it tells me to contact technical assistance if the problem persists. each time it has done it, THIS TIME, was while it was in full screen. im watching The Secret Life of an American Teenager on abcfamily.com

any help as to why it is doing this? bad HDD? motherboard?

i just read that it can mean that my graphics card is taking a shit on me and i will need to replace it. i just got the damn thing in may and paid 400 for it. i better not have to buy a new one

backup your data, and do a clean install

Boot into a linux live cd. If it's a hardware issue, it'll still happen in Linux.

only $400? thats dam cheap for a laptop. my laptop was well over a grand a year ago, and just found out that the series that mine is, is having a huge problem with wireless lock out, to the point where the only way to get it 100% fix is to replace the mother board, or at least thats what the computer forums are showing. so i called up Hp *(comp is a hp dv9000 series) and they said i was still under warrenty *(idk y because last time i checked it ran out of warrenty back in aug. of 08. 1 year warrentys ftw! not!!!) so right now im getting either a new board or a hole new comp from hp

Google Ubuntu, download the .iso for the Live CD for the latest version, and burn it to a CD. Put the disk in the drive when you boot, and it should boot straight into Linux, assuming that you have the BIOS set to boot off of CD.

When you're done, just eject the disk and reboot the computer.

EDIT: Just make sure to get the "live" cd, unless you actually do want to install it on your hard drive, lol.

alright thanks. and when you say done, you mean after i go and try to watch the show again correct?

Doesn't do what? Break? If it works fine in Linux, then I'd say it's not a hardware problem.

Well, yeah. You're running it off the live CD, so it has no write access to install it.

i bought it right when it came out. so yes i did pay 409 for it. and i got a deal on it too. it was like 650 from everywhere else
