2010 Camaro; Pony Killer?

I have been reading up on the 2010 Camaro and I'm getting pretty pissed at Ford. V6 is reported to have 300 HP. V8, 422HP. So, the V6 will run with a GT engine (for 5K less)???? WTF! (The Camaro is heavier, so your GT is somewhat safe from a V6.) Sounds like they gave the Camaro the Corvette engine.

Camaro also has an independent suspension which Ford has resisted. Good news is that although the Camaro design is hot, Chevy screwed up with a horanous looking front end. The Chevy symbol on the front bumper is particularly loathsome.

So what is ford going to do. The Mustang is a real nice ride. But I'd have to at least consider the 422HP Camaro on my next purchase. Whatever your persuasion, 330 HP is tame in the modern world where the Hundai Genesis has a 450HP rating.

On the bright side, maybe GM will go under and the Camaro will never be mass produced.

Another bright side is initial dealer markup will create a price buffer for the first two years.

wait for the 2011 mustang GT, it comes with the 5.0...i think 400hp and weighs less then the camaro....and i wouldnt want IRS on a mustang, it adds weight and sucks off the line. and what is this about the genesis? are you saying it comes with 450hp? because it doesnt.

Friend of mine has one "ordered" for him, or on reserve, what the fuck ever he has done to it....i dunno........but he has been rubbing it in my face BAAAADDDD saying he is going to walk me like i am standing still........its pissing me off, but I know for a fact on the track im going to beat the crud out of that camaro. It makes me feel even better he is going to have IRS.

Which will add how much to the price? If the prices are withing 5K of each other, then it wouldn't make sense to get the stang if your out for performance. I don't mean to sound like a Camaro homer, but these specs are far ahead of what Ford gives us.

There are a lot of cars 400+ horsepower out there, sure. But how heavy are they? How well do they use that power? The awnser, REALLY heavy and not very well.

The aftermarket we have will continue to desimate all competition in my opinion.

As far as price. Look at the challenger now, the base is like $5k more than a base mustang and the loaded version is more than a GT500. Expect about the same with the slowmarow. Even more so when you consider how much SS's were going brand new back in the day.

I heard on a talk radio show that the Slomaro WILL definately get into production no matter what. That was surprising considering the financial stats on GM....Now I remember, it was a director at FORD that made that comment.

reason being is the factories are already tooled for the car and probably have a whole mess of them built already.

Im not to worried about that Camaro. I look forward to putting those new owner in line. Im sure they will think they are bada**'s with their new slowmaro.

IRS sucks. It is heavy and sucks from a drag racing standpoint. It can handle just as good as an IRS car and is cheaper to produce.

Look at the 425hp Challenger. It runs low 13s where the S197 GT runs 13.6s with 125 less horsepower.

And the 300hp V6 isn't getting any faster without some sort of power adder so that isn't really a concern. What the Mustang has on the maro is it is cheaper and lighter with a SRA.

the V6 camaro's will have 300+ HP but will lack the torque to compete with the Mustang GT's.
And as far as the Camaro SS goes the base Model starts at $30,000(1SS) and $34,000(2SS) so by time you upgrade those, you can add a poweradder to the Mustang and still blow their doors off.

why does everyone get so horny over the v6 camaro's 300 hp? Impressive? yes, but what about torque? I think i remember reading that the torque is like 290? so it's the same horse power with 30 less torque. People tend to blow their load too early and forget about that.

Keep in mind, a 425hp SRT8 owner cringes when a 300hp GT starts poking at him... Most of us have no worries; NONE!

i wouldn't cringe...i think the manual srt8's are capable of 12's...with a great trap speed.

Maybe on DR's, but not on those huge factory twenties with rubber bands for tires.

I'd rather have the Ford than the Mopar all day. But, I am a bit biased.
