social security number fraud

Anyone know were to start when this happens to you? My sister found out two weeks ago that someone had been buying stuff at a prison commissary with her credit card. Now today she found out why she can't land an apartment. Under various versions of her name, and sometimes a completely different name, there are over 60 evictions on her credit report.

What the fuck should she do first?

She's already filed reports with the local police and the FBI, she's placed alerts on all her credit cards. But it seems to me that ultimately she probably need a new social..

Any thoughts?

She probably needs to go to your local social security administration office. They'll be able to tell her anything she can do.

Tell her to go to this website...if she fills out the affidavit it'll help. She needs to bring a birth certificate and other forms of ID with her and go to the closest Social Security Administration and file a report of identity theft and get a new social security number. She will probably need copies of the reports filed with the various agencies (police, FBI), etc.
ID Theft Affidavit
Tim had his identity stolen (luckily they didn't have his social) but it still jacked things up for at least a year or two. If her information was used in a prison/jail then they should be able to find out who used it.

AND she needs to contact all three credit agencys if she hasn't already and put them all on alert so if anyone applies for credit in her name she is notified immediately..But FBI and District Attorney should have some info also. Maybe she needs to hire an attorney too? Man this is awful!! I have run into this with a debit card I have..some one got the numbers. BUT I check my balances daily on line and caught it..but this stuff is really scary. Sorry that she has to go through this nightmare, because it IS one.

Maybe contact her local TV news show for some sources on what to do?? Just a thought and a story like this should be heard by all. Terrible!

Right...on that website it has a list of steps to do in case your identity is stolen and the very first step is reporting this to all three credit bureaus...

Yeah, probably, but to discuss the file the prison wanted her social, which she didn't want to give them.
