just got a cat

this is something different for me. i have always been a dog person and only have done dogs or an ocassional fish. a co-worker wanted to give away his cat, and my son really like it. its fixed, declawed, and vaccinated. it wont come out from under the bed right now, but i guess it will get hungry sooner or later.

how old is it?
the early years of a cat are important, give them attention but you must play nice, no pulling, no teasing, no nothing, and oddly enough they will end up just like a dog that is more independent. I have grandpa here as proof that cats aren't half bad.

it will get use to you soon enough, just be willing to wait a long ass time, and get some toys, ie. a stick with a sting and a mouse at the end of the sting and throw it under the bed and drag it out to the open for everone to see him and so the little guy doesnt become to shy, thats how we get my grandparents cats out from under the beds when we vist, ever time i go down there they have a new cat, that a there watching or b there waiting for someone to adopt them, but there usually afraid of everything and will only come out if you wanna play and let them know your not there to fight with them. the toy i said above is about $10 and is a easy way to get the little guy to come out and play

i think its 8mo or something like that. the family was good to it except for the 11yr old boy that was mean to it. it played great with my son and my wife.

can a cat be taught to fetch me a beer like a dog could be taught???

haha, i got my dog to do that for me, even tought her how to open up the fridge and shut it.... i call her my college dog, she has never broke open a can, nor does she shake it up, never broke a glass, nor dropped one. so far all i have to work on is the shutting of the doors, she likes to leave them open after opening them. and i dont think a cat can pick up something half it's own weight, but hey there known to do some wacky stuff.

damn. i had a dog i loved, he was great. awsome with kids, very protective with kids, very very smart with complex things, but dumb as a bag of hammers when it came to common sense stuff. he decided to chew up my trailer wiring, i tried to let it roll off my shoulder. but after 2 times, i had enough of it. i got rid of him and been looking for a new pet.

the cat finally let me reach under the bed and pet her, she not wanting to come out yet for her internet debut.

AWESOME!
I was in the same boat. Never had a cat. Hated cats. Was ALLERGIC to cats.

Then on Xmas, wifey brings home a cat after some long discussions.
Now, he's my best buddy. My allergies have all but disappeared and I cant explain it at all accept to say we bath him every other day in anti dander shampoo and wipe him down with anti dander spray everyday. Plus I vacuum the house like a mad man now. But anyway, he's social and the best pet I have ever had period. Playfull sometimess and wants to just chill at other times. Totally litterbox trained too.

Just this morning he's doing something new. I've never seen or heard a cat do this. He sits in front of my windows outback and makes this odd "clicking" sound with his tongue while making very quiet "meows". He does this while watching the sparrows in the tree. almost like he is saying "you fuckers are soooo lucky this glass is here or you'd be breakfast". BTW, "Kryptonite" is in my Avie.

SS, give him some catnip. Put just a tiny bit on the floor and rub it in so he can smell it. He'll go insane! Its really fun to watch!
