XBox Live and Wireless
Just need a little advice from some of you guys that may have tried what works and what doesn't.
I just moved into a new house. At my old house my computer/modem/router was just around the corner from my T.V./Xbox so I just hard wired from my router to my 360. Well, now the new house is quite a bit larger and the living room with the T.V./Xbox is in one end of the house and the office that has my Linksys router/modem is at the other. Just off the top of my head, I would say the strait line distance from Xbox to router is about 30-35 feet with three interior walls between them. I'm thinking of picking up one of these: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x...er/default.htm Anyone with experiance on them? Are they junk or totally worth the cash? My other option is to hard wire the router/modem to the 360 because I do have a phone jack (still on DSL) right beside my T.V. and than pick up a wireless adapter for the PC. Again, anyone with any experiance on a good wireless adapter for a PC? Really, the only concern that I really have is speed. If I get the 360 adapter I want it too keep me connected at a good speed. I don't want to screw around with lag or keep getting booted from servers. That will just frustrate me to no end. Thanks for any help guys.

it'll work. i'd look for a used one some where though. or you could go with a wireless bridge. basically, it's a little box that connects up to your wireless. it has a cat 5 cable coming out of it that connects to your 360. That's what i'm using for my 360.
my 360, ps3, and wii are all more than 50 ft and don't have any problems. with just the three walls, i wouldn't expect any problems. as far as speed, that shouldn't be an issue. your bottleneck will always be your internet connection unless you happen to have a T1 coming into your home. |

I'm not all that savvy on xbox live and such...BUT...just to add some insight...
We had the linksys router, moved to a bigger place, and I would get kicked off a lot in my room. Maybe about the same distance you are from your router... with 2 walls in between. I bought this D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router and haven't had a problem yet. We had 2 PS3's (one in the living room, one in my bedroom), 2 desktop PC's (one in his room, one in mine), a laptop (anywhere), and a few other things on the network and it didn't phase it a bit. Speed seemed pretty decent. Never got much lag playing COD4 |

you can do it how you wish i guess, if you do want a cheap wireless adapter for a desktop let me know cause i have one thats brand new pretty much, my desktop doesn't work anymore. But thats the way i do it, my xbox is plugged directly into my modem/router (verizon fios) and then my laptops and desktop (when it worked) was used wireless.

if you have a good modem. then you shouldn't have any problems with lag, that is if you were to chose and go wireless.
I bought on of these and they work great.

I'm really leaning towards this route. What adapter do you have for your desktop? Do you recomend it or do you think I should go with something better. I don't want to spend a shit load, but I don't mind spending a little extra to get a nice one just so I don't have to listen to my girlfriend bitch about how fucked up the internet connection is.

i have the linksys wireless G with speedbooster that i bought for walmart for 60 bucks. If you want it i will sell it to you for 40 shipped. It comes with the cd to install it and takes just a couple of minutes to do, my desktop just shit the bed so i don't need it.

How hard is the install? What all do you need? I have a HP that is about six years old.

its not hard, just take the side cover off. Take out the card that has the network jack on the back, plug the wireless one into its place. turn on the computer and run the setup disk.
