Wheel Backspacing ??
I'm interested in learning more about wheel offsets and backspacing...
The wheels im interested in for my 89 notchback are sized: 17x8 +18 offset 4x108 bolt pattern I converted the above numbers and came up with this... 17x8 5.25" backspacing 4.25" bolt pattern Now, i need to know if the 8" wide rim with the 5.25" backspacing will fit under my vehicle without issues. Does anyone possibly have pictures of their wheel/tire set-up with specs on backspacing and tire size/width? also, what is the recommended tire size for a 17"x8" wheel for this chassis? Or does anyone have a wheel/tire combo that are the same as the specs mentioned above (17x8 5.25" backspacing) or close to it that is willing to share pics? pics pics pics... lol, Thanks Guys!

Anyone have pics of thier car with some drag wheels on the back or something? possibly 8" wide?
The rims im going to be using are 17" but, im more concerned about the width and the distance between the outside of the wheel and the fender/quarter panel. I'm trying to accomplish a certain look so if you have any pictures you'd like to share, i thank you.

Nice Car.
Do you know what backspacing is on those rear wheels? As lacking in knowledge as i am when it comes to this subject i'd have to guess 2.5"-3.0" backspacing. They seem to be sticking out quite a bit for a 10" wide wheel so i took that into consideration with my guess. But if you know the exact specs im interested to find out to help better my future experiences. Thanks.

I know that the fronts are centered. By that I mean they are a 3 inch back spacing. I believe that the rears are a 5 inch backspacing. Not sure but I will take measurements for you tomorrow.
My brother in law has a 00 with 17x9.5 Cobra R replicas on his. I know that the backspacing on his are set pretty far towards the front but are still sharp none the less. Not sure what size the rubber is on his. I will see if I can et pics of it for you too. |

Not all mustangs are a 5 x 4.5" pattern. Mustang IIs and 79-93 (with the exception of the SVO and Cobra models) are a 4 lug pattern.
I went with just enough backspacing to clear the inner fenderwells and suspansion. A 10 inch wheel is rather wide especially for a car as small as a Mustang. |

So, with the newer Mustangs like my 2000 GT have 17" rims and your year is a 15" one? Is a 17" rim stock for my year or can you go smaller? Thanks for the input. I am curious because I have a set of 15x10, and a set of 15x8 rims just like yours and I really prefer the Outlaw rims over the aftermarket spoke looking rims that I have.

15" rims should work fine on your car as long as you havent added bigger brakes or brake components like calipers, bigger discs etc.. You can always just do a test fit if youre not sure. Just bolt em on and make sure that theyre not bound up and dont rub before and after you let the jack down. Your car very likely came stock with 17s being a GT but can handle a wide variety of sizes. Ive even seen cars with odd sizes like 19s on back and 18s on front. Most likely the only clearance issues you might have will be with the fenders, I have a 2" drop on mine and the wider tires tend to rub the fenders on the rear when the suspension compresses.
