Okay, it's VERY easy to demonize alcohol-related accidents.

How many accidents like this (or worse) have you seen that DON'T involve alcohol? How many people drink, get in their cars, and get home safely?

Before anyone breaks out the flamethrowers, I'm in no way am I trying to contradict the dangers of drunk driving, but attempting to play Devil's Advocate for this situation.

Funny you show that one picture, Dennis, of the vehicle entering that house.

I have a story about that.

F'ed up day.

Simple answer.

Because drinking and driving is something completely in your control.

The fact that you could drink, and drive home safely, is ridiculous logic at best.

How many innocent people get shot by criminals and somehow live because the bullet missed a vital artery or organ?

I agree with this. As rev stated, these are terrible tradegies and driving under the influence is a terrible thing. However, accidents happen all the time like this without alcohol as well

Again, your point is flawed logic at best.

Drinking impairs all of your abilities. Period.

Just because accidents happen without alcohol, does not mean you should further increase the chance by impairing your ability to drive. At that point, you are putting other people's lives and well being in your hands.

Okay, the reason I pose the question is that I know one person that's been involved in an alchohol-related accident (me, I was hit by a drunk on a harley while driving my mom's Outback; he died on the way to the hospital, I got a nifty 1" scar on my forearm), but I know a LOT of people who've been in accidents that didn't involve alchohol at all, and I know a LOT of people who've driven drunk.

It just seems people are quick to whip out the "you're gonna DIE and take INNOCENTS WITH YOU!!!1!" card with drunk driving, but not with other things that are as, if not more, dangerous (such as talking on cellphones while driving).

Again, what does a accident that didn't involve alcohol have to do with one that does? And talking on cell phones while driving? Ok, let's assume you see that as just as bad.

This makes it okay to drink and drive?

Either you think it's bad, or don't.

I'm sorry, Rev, I don't know how much you've seen, but I've scraped a lot of people off the highway that were victims of drunk drivers.

I 'whip' that 'innocents' card out, because I've held their hands while they died. I 'whip' that card out because I've watched them burn to death. I 'whip' that card out because I've seen the human body turned inside out.

The fact that accidents happen has nothing to do with the fact that alcohol impairs your ability to drive, and makes you a menace to INNOCENT people around you.

Period.

the corvette the guy was going way too fast down a country road. he came over a hill and his car went airborne just enough for him to loose control. he went through a fence and rolled multiple times. he actually lived.

i have dozens and dozens of pics of wrecks where alcohol was not involved. the point at hand is to show people what CAN happen if you choose to drive drunk. im not saying that it will happen. my only purpose is to show what can happen and maybe open some people eyes so they make better decisions when they have been drinking and are thinking about driving home.
