Got pulled over, can you spot why?

Well, I was heading home, minding my own business when I noticed a cop behind me. Now this isn't a big deal, there is usually a lot of cops driving about in this part of town. I turn onto a 2 lane road, so does he, no big deal, but now he is a little closer. So I do my thing, change lanes and drop 2-3 mph, its a test, if he is following me, he now has to slow down noticeably to change lanes to get back on my ass. Well, as I had expected, he did, and lights went on shortly after. So I find a spot to pull over, he comes up, I hand over my ID and whatnot and he goes back to his car where he sits for 20 minutes keeping that blinding spot light on (I hate when they do that). He comes back, no ticket or anything, just told me to clean my car.

Here is a pic of my car taken not too long ago, car is off, flash is on, and not much of what I am trying to show is showing up very well.

My car was dirty, I went out, picked up tinted plate covers (not legal in NE) and washed my car. Plates stayed dirty, and now the cover is dirty, so even in the middle of the day, its hard to make out the plate number. To make it worse, one of the lights that lights up the plate is out, so what cant really be seen during the day really can't be seen at night. Cop was cool though, just told me I needed to wash my car.

Yes yes, but its not like my car was show room quality when I picked it up. Car gets dirty, I clean it when I get to it. With wet/dirty roads, car gets dirty quicker. Car is due for a wash, its just too cold right now.

Cop was cool though, even asked me to step out of my car, so I could see for myself so I didn't think he was making shit up. I got out and told him I knew exactly what he pulled me over for because I knew my driving did nothing to provoke it. I did however see someone get pulled over for absolutely nothing. While pulled over some random cop pulled up next to us, sat for a minute and left, did a U turn and sped off after the one car on the road and pulled him over. I saw that other car, lights on, middle of his lane, plates, everything was fine, maybe going 5 under. Shit happens though, I must have seen 5 people pulled over within 2 minutes of where I live.

Before reading the paragraph under the picture I thought to myself; how did only his license plate get dirty?

Where were you at first of all? I may know the officer

It is actually against the law in NE to have dirty license plates. I dont believe it's a ticketable offense unless you have another driving violation. He pulled you over for a decent reason though, often times criminals leave license plates dirty intentionally as to make the car hard to ID. At least you didnt even get a written warning. Sucks to waste your time, but he's doing his job!

I dont know why you want tinted plate covers, is it that big of a deal to have your plates be read? It's standard proceedure to randomly run plates for potentially stolen vehicles, why risk being pulled over again if they cant see the plates because of the tinting?

As to the spot light, it's called Police Protection. They have to get home at the end of the night too, when they turn that sucker on they want to make sure you dont know when they are getting out of their car. I bet you didnt hear him get out of the car either did you? Yet another police protection thing. You may hate it, but they hate getting shot at so it is all fair play!

Get the light fixed man, it's a cheap and simple fix that'll keep the police out of your hair.

Yes, it's winter, it blows to have to wash your car and plates, at least go out there with a wet rag and whipe it off, replace the broken light, and stay safe. Surefire way to keep the police off your ass for traffic violations.

Out with it: Who was the officer and where was it at?

In any state, a cop could probably pull you over for not properly displaying your tag. If its dirty or you dont even have one. Law enforcement probably want to see your tags.

Its cool he didnt give you a ticket. Knowing a few cops, the license plate waas probably just a reason to pull you over and see if anything else was going on. And yes, cops profile big time. Its not all racial profiling either. Young kid of any color in a Mustang that has an obstruction (dirt or whatever) covering the tag is a good target. Cops dont always think in terms of "style", they think in terms of crime. If you rob a store, you may want to cover your tag for the get away. If you have massive warrants out, you may want to cover your tag. There's lots of reasons to purposly cover your identification on a car and thats how they think.

It was a block down from 30th and lake. No clue who the cop was, just some average sized white guy. Tinted plate covers on a dsg stang just look right, same as blacked out lights on a black stang. I'm not complaining about getting pulled over, cop was cool about it all and I just think it is funny.

Between 1-2am, do you know of a cop talking about pulling a mustang over there last night?

Well I'm going totally off topic here...but Omaha people, if you see a candy apple red 69 SS396 with red interior, power windows, a/c, automatic w.console and here's the kicker...rear trunk release and rear window defogger-all factory ordered BTW...that is MY first car! 10 years ago, some guy from Omaha traced me back on the title and called me. Don't know if he still has it...NOS do not match he dropped a different engine in.

That is all...LOL

Well if it is the cop you think it might be, tell him I said thanks for not being an ass. Most of the time, that late at night cops are assholes. No sarcasm there, he was ok, it's just nice when cops are just nice, average guys.
