Ok, so Im taking this girl I have been dating out to this bed and breakfast over the weekend for valentines day and the place is in the middle of no where and has no way of providing flowers for valentines day. So I think Im going to pick some up tomorrow to give to her on sat. What is the best way to keep flowers fresh and transport them? I was thinking of just putting them in a cooler in the back with some ice, would that work or would it kill them? At $120/Arrangement I would prefer not to kill them before she gets them.

I was just kidding bro....but seriously if you have a way to put them in the car with water if you keep them in cold water they will last longer....also if they start to wilt cold water will bring them back (not completely) also if you use about 1/2 sprite or 7up and 1/2 water they will last about twice as long...

Thats why I was thinking of keeping them in a cooler in my car because it would be cold and the bottom of the stems would be in the thawed ice/water in the bottom.

I am being dead serious bro...My wife has a container with about 1200 dried roses.. even has are wedding boquet....I buy her roses at least once a week and I swear by the sprite/7up and water....about half and half....works waaaay better than the asprin trick


EDIT: Put it this way take half the flowers and put in sprite water and the other half however you like and if my half doesnt live longer than your half I will send you the money for all of them...if my side does last longer you have to rep me once a day everyday for the next year.....lol...I am serious it works great..i have seen roses last almost 2 weeks and i was luck to get 5-7 days before

can also ask the florist for some nutrient packets. Cutting the flower stems at an angle while leaving them in nutrient rich water will keep them fresh for a couple days for sure.

yeah i used to use that nutrient crap until my mom told me about the sprite/7up water....sometimes I havent had a sprite around so i substituted an orange or strawberry soda it worked too...my mom said its something to do with the sugar and carbonation....dont use coke or any colas though the acid will probably kill them though i have never tried it

Coke will do bad things to alot of stuff, so I wouldn't be putting them in Coke. Have you tried ProFlowers.com? The deliver to just about anywhere, probably that middle of nowhere B&B too.

yeah I use coke to tenderize my steaks. I marinate them in that with other stuff for flavor and they come out tender as hell....also works good to clean your battery terminals

Wet a bunch of paper towel, soaked but not dripping wet, wrap those around the stems, then get a large enough plastic bag (like a grocery bag), and put the stems in the bag. Lightly run a bit of water over the paper towel before you tie the bag off.

Tie the bag off, and keep the flowers upright.


Or, put the flowers in a vase, and put the flower food that came with the flowers in the water. Put the vase in a box and the box in the car.

Drive gently. Don't run too much heat on to the floor , or put them on the seat beside you and use the seat belt to help hold the vase steady.

Im not thinking I could drive for three hours and hide them from her f I had them in my teeth... I think I will just soak the towels in water and put them in something, then put them in a cooler ( standing upright ) in the back of my explorer ( which she wont think anything of because there is always a cooler in the back of my explorer ). Thanks for the help guys...
