Photography degree

okay guys I want to be a photographer, and I want to major in it and get a degree in it, BUT Im unsure as to what type if a degree I would need.

My main goal is to be a photographer for sports illustrated, and shot action shots, mainly racing.

anyways what degree do I need?

As there is no "photography degree "

what you probably need to work for Magazines is a 4 year degree (probably more) and a Kick ass portfolio. with not just sports photography in it.

Look up SCAD. Savannah College of Art and Design Home

They are a really good art school with a good photography program. They may be near you about an hour outside the north part of FL. My friend has his masters from there. I'm sure FL has good schools as well.

If this is your passion, I would focus less on photography as your school path. Do something else that would help you to work for a magazine, I would suggest something along the lines of a graphic arts or journalism. Take a photography class or two at school, and build up a good portfolio on your own of your pictures.

Luckily some community colleges have good teachers at times. My friend with the masters is a teacher at 3 cc's. You should see his student's portfolios. They are really good.

I have my BFA in graphic design but I was limited in the amount of photography classes I was allowed to take. If you go that route hopefully your program will be more lenient in relation to that.

How about a major in graphic imaging or graphic design?

And yes, you can get a BFA degree in photography.
