wow....WOW this kid has had a real hard life... I had a student come into my office just now, 5 hours before they have to be here and told me he was going to be late because his uncle was coming home for a visit from rehab for an hour today and he asked if that was ok. I said yes, he then gave me the back story on why he wanted to see his uncle.

He told me his dad was on drugs since he was 8, went to jail, his uncle raised him, went to jail, grandfather took over, died, dad came back from jail, back on drugs, uncle just oded and his dad maybe getting charged with homocide and is really back into drugs again....jesus fuck....I really have to stop bitching about my life.

He might have good morals still. Both my parents got fucked up and I did find my way going down that path. But I have seen more kids with respectable parents in my age group end up on meth. these parents were teachers of early development. no one is perfect and everone picks the path they take in life.

marines have little to do with this.

he seems like he really wants to do right now. He comes to me and tells me why he's going to be late like today...Normally I wouldn't be here this early but I had some paper work to deal with. I was shocked as hell when he walked into my office today...after he knocked. Most kids don't these days. He was almost in tears sitting here talking to me. I think I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that he passes this year.

he seems to be a good kid, just got lost being a 13-15 year old kid with no one to keep him in line. The marines seem to be an end goal of high school for him, something to keep him focused on and motivate him. Even if he doesn't do it in the end it's something

I just dont want him to see that this is an end all. Its still going to be in the military just like any society.

My friend went in the army and thought he could get away from it all. He still has a problem, its not as severe as when he went in but it still runs rampid.

You just have to tell him that if there is any hope at all, its in himself and that power will get you through anything.

Well then thats understandable and awesome at the same time, I think you should talk to him.

When my father died everyone was like ooo blah blsah blah if you need to cry blah blah blah blah...

My teachers all gave me sympathy and shit, I just wanted someone to talk to about anything not just my dad's death just about future my plans etc how I was going to do it someone to hang out with..

Thats just me though everyone is different, but if I was in this situation I would try and talk to him but if he gets defensive at all I'd back up and leave it alone just leave my door open, but would talk to him about once a week just to make sure he's ok

I'm not a counselor shrink...

Just tell him you see a lot of good in him. A chance to take the cards he was dealt and still have the courage and determination to stare life down with the attitude of "I'm better than that, and this isn't going to take me down". Definitely sit him down. If you can't think of what to say...let him talk. Maybe he's gotta get stuff out. Throw in your 2 cents. Shit, have him call me. I'll talk to him. Anything to get someone to find a silver lining in a crap situation.

Sit him down and just ask if he wants to talk about it, if he says no then leave it at that and just say something like he can talk to you if he needs to, and then ask him about the Marines, and talk to him more about the Marines. It's a step to be "that" teacher that everyone remembers from highschool, and him being the kid that will come to you even after he is out of your class. Just sit him down and ask him questions, and go from there.
