hey does anyone have one thats unlocked?

if so what all do you have that I dont with it being unlocked I had a 2g unlocked and had quite a bit but that was before the app store

I have it. It's easy to unlock. Just download one program and it's simple. It's called QuickPwn.

What's the best way not to have a data plan? No way I'm forking over an extra $60k or whatever a month in addition to voice plan fees.

I'd be happy just to have the wi-fi. Don't need to use their overpriced data network.

i would like to know this as well... ive heard that once you do the unlock that if you try and upgrade the firmware that it will lock up and become unusable.

For it to work on the network it might need to have a data plan on it. Most smartphones/pda's do. How AT&T has it I don't know, what they do with the iPhone I don't know, but it's a good possibility that you need to have a data plan to use the phone on the network.

I know safi uses tmobile with his iphone. The data plan for it is way cheaper than AT&T.

Not possible with AT&T. If you have an iPhone they force you to pay for the iphone data plan

This is somewhat true as well. Though its not the firmware that keeps you from unlocking, its the upgraded BaseBand that came with the 2.2.0/.1 firmware update.

AT&T Makes you have the iphone data plan. I believe its an extra $30 per month

so SAFI, ive also got tmobile and have been podering this. if i got one and unlocked it to tmobile i should not do the upgrade to the baseband that you mentioned or what not? what is it exactly for and does it hinder any use of the phone at all? thanks for the input.

Well first off...This only applies to the 3g iPhone. Every 2g iPhone can be unlocked no matter the baseband. There is a way to unlock the 3g iphone, but you must do it before updating to 2.2.1. If the baseband version number is 02.30.03 then you wont be able to unlock it. So...If your going to buy a 3g iphone from someone, make sure it doesn't have the 02.30.03 baseband (you can look in the "about" section of the settings for this info).

In simple terms the steps would be to do this. Be on firmware 2.2 with baseband lower than 02.30.03. After that you need to make a custom .ipsw (firmware file. There are programs that will let you do this easily) that will let you update to 2.2.1 WITHOUT updating the baseband. Once you are on 2.2.1 with a lower baseband you can now use an app called "yellowsn0w" to unlock

I always liked tmobile, but their selection of phones sucks horse ballsnuts. That's why I switched to AT&T.

(That and because you have to pay more money to use the mobile to mobile feature, which is included with AT&T)
