Universal Technical Institute!
I am looking for feedback on UTI. I am thinking about enrolling in UTI in
Avondale, AZ. and taking the core automotive technologies program plus the Ford F.A.C.T. course and eventually get the money together to go to Dallas, TX campus and finish up by taking the Collision Repair and Refinish technologies course which includes some custom work and custom body and fabrication work as far as I know. So if anyone has attended and graduated how hard was it finding work after graduating and how is the money, is it what was expected or is it not quite worth the money? I know some people that went to UTI... spent a lot of money for "training" and now they all work at a local prison... They all said it was cool to learn those things, but a waste of money...

UTIcore programs= waste of money
manufacturer specific programs = worth the money was it what I expected?= LOLOLOLOLOLOL LIES! making good money?= not in this economy.I wish I would have gone to GCC and took their auto program. UTI was a joke, It was like high school all over again. The only thing I didnt regret was the FORD FACT program, that is a damn good program. |

all of those school's are a waste of money. you don't get any certs or anything really. My brother went to wyotech and went thru the advanced program and graduated top of his class and still didn't get shit of a job when he got out. I am sorry but mechanics is not the way to go right now. In this economy you need to be doing something in the medical field or IT field. Any of those tech schools are a huge waste of money. And the money you spend on 1 year of schooling will pay for 3 years at a University.

It can go both ways. You succeed as much as you want to succeed. But unless you have hookups in a dealer youre probably not gonna make very much starting out, especially in a small town. My friend went to UTI in houston for 2 years and spent a shit bag of money just to start out as the oil change dude at the nearest dodge dealer. He moved to the local ford house and had a better position but still made shit for pay, as in like 8 bucks per hour. He doesnt even work in the automotive field now. I went to Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and the school was pretty fun but once again no money once you get in the field.

Thanks for all of the feed back everyone, I am thinking I am gonna go for
it, I mean I have been working on cars since I was 15 so thats 13 years already and I figure I might as well get paid better , since UTI does master ASE certifications in auto technology diesel technology and auto body repair technology and all of the I-Car certifications I would need as well in their Collision Repair and Refinish Technologies program. If anyone has any more feedback please, and with the economy right now I figure I might as well do school since there isn't alot of money out that I have been able to find right now, then by the time I am done with school hopefully things will look better. Thanks again. |

dont do it.
if u have been working on cars for most of ur life ur better off going to a technical school. UTI only covers the basics on all cars. not specifics and performance ext... if you want to do auto body repair and things like that look into soundschool but dont waist ur time at UTI.

All of the auto tech schools are only worth it if you really want to get something out of them. You only take from them what you put in. If you want to make big bucks. Don't fuck around. Do your school work. Listen to the people that know. Get good grades! If you ace everything, like I did, the manufacterer programs will be bagging you to join them. If you don't, you won't get into any. Porsche only takes about 6 people a year, BMW only will take you if you get 95% or above in every coarse. I don't work in the industry anymore, but that is only because I choose not too. I made a lot of good money being a Ford Tech and it was great experience and I would do it all over again if I had the chance. |

You can get better training at a local community college for much much less. I have quite a few friends that went to UTI then had to go to the local community college to get the training they should have had. DO NOT waste your money at UTI for any class!!!
