Steps to Cisco Certification

The Cisco Certifications are availed in five levels which include Entry, Associate, Professional, Expert, and Specialist. The first stage of certification is the entry level and covers basic networking knowledge, and does not get involved with the more intricate technical aspects of the Cisco security, wireless, or voice curriculum. The stage begins with CCENT or Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician.

CCENT certification acts as an interim step to CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) and CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate) credentials. The second stage is CCNA or CCDA level, which indicates an associate knowledge of Cisco network design as well as the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot enterprise level router and switched networks. The next level is the professional level which includes CCNP and CCDP certifications.

Expert level certification is the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), which is the highest level of professional certification that Cisco provides. Cisco also provides Specialist certifications that can enhance the core knowledge of networking professionals in technologies such as security, IP telephony, and wireless.

i got my CCNP a few years ago. but i don't use it. and probably never will. to tell the truth, i don't even remember most of that stuff. but i've got tons of books
