should i buy a car or not? want opinions
okay so i got a job making decent money and don't really have a whole lot of bills but i have a few i almost have my gt paid off but i want something faster i could get a cobra and i know i could afford payments or a Shelby which im not sure if i can afford or not. should i save up for a house and for a honey moon for me and the fiancée cause were planing on getting married in 2011. or should i sell my gt and use that money to put on the new car to help out (was going to keep the gt as a dd). or something else aka write in

Save up for a house and honeymoon man. If your car is already almost paid off, then that will be one less bill to have. You can use that extra money to put towards a car after you get married...or if something happens, you'll have that money to cover it. If you're about to get out of having a car payment, I wouldn't dive straight into another one.

Honestly bro just keep saving you never know when things can happen and it would sure be nice to have liquid assets instead of money wrapped up in a car.. Just wait until it is very attainable i would never buy a car over a house if i had one that was running great and completely paid off.. It makes no sense..

+1 to the house and honeymoon. Cars are a luxoury item... Start building that home equity and get a nice car down the road.

Understandable...a lot of people do, but you gotta look at the whole big picture. You're going to have a wife now, maybe a family some time down the road. You're not going to want to be living in an apartment, or renting a house from someone else. That's just pissing money away. Get yourself into a decent place, and it's a MUCH better investment. Especially with some of the tax breaks that new home owners are getting. My ex roommate bought his house last may, got orders and moved late January...in that little bit of time, he got $15,000 back in taxes. It's a big step, and costly, but it's all worth it in the long run. If I was in a situation where I could afford a house on my own, I would jump all over it. As much as I want to mod my car, it would stay stock forever if I could afford to a buy a house. It's just a really really smart move. Especially with the way things are going.

Well honestly...it doesn't matter what it is. If you BUY it...NOT rent, or lease it, then you're good. You can turn an apartment or townhouse and make a profit a few years down the road. But renting you might as well just be burning all that money. You'll never see a dime of it in the end.

For example...
Before we moved into the house, we had a shithole little townhouse. 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath....right around 1000 sq ft. Some guy bought it from our original landlord about 3 years after we moved in. He paid $59,000 for it. That makes the mortgage at around roughly $450 a month depending on his interest rate and how long he got the loan for. He rented it to us for $800 a month! We had to have been the best tenants he ever had, cause we never bothered him for anything, even though a lot of shit needed to be done. The most he ever did was buy a new indoor and outdoor AC unit. So 3 years, at $800 a month, he made $28,800 easy money. Almost half of what he paid for it! AND he more than likely hiked the rent up for the guy that moved in after us, because when I first moved in, the rent was $600 a month. He hiked it $100 a month every year after he acquired it. So get yourself a nice little apartment or townhouse...when you've been there a while, and saved up enough for a down payment on a nicer place, be it a larger, nicer apartment, or a house, you can rent the original apartment out. Or sell it outright and use that as a down payment on a house. When you OWN a place, it opens up a SHIT LOAD of doors for you man. |
