Computer question..

Just used Wubi to install ubuntu.

Anyways I cannot log in to ubuntu. Says the username and password are wrong. Well I never made one nor ever created any users in linux.

Any ideas?

ehh, i have never used any linux based stuff. was it a download that required a crack? and if it says the user name and password are wrong, yet you say you have never created a user name and password? Are you putting a user name and password in?

Yes it was a legit download.

Thats the part I don't get. I never made any users I just watched it install and as soon as I go to use it, it has me logging in. Which of course i don't know.

Looking up on google how to reset the root password now.

nah linux is better because of the way it stores the info and stuff, you just have to be more savvy at computers to mess with it

Okay, I'm good now.

Linux is FREE. LEGALLY. There's no crack for it, lol.

CB, when you did the install, it creates a user, and asks you for a password. I know this for fact, I've installed Ubuntu many times.

There is NO way to do the installer without it creating that user. Most linux installs have you create a root password, but Ubuntu doesn't - it forces you to use sudo (which I say is a good idea). As such, it forces the creation of a user which it gives sudo priveledges.

Ubuntu doesn't have a root password for you to reset. (Technically, yes it does, but for all intents and purposes it doesn't).

You say it defaulted to your user name. You *had* to have put that in at some point during the install. It can't just magic that out of the air. When you did that, it would have asked you for a password TWICE.

I'm not talking shit, lol. If anything, it makes me sad that purveyors of proprietary software have done such a good job in convincing people that there's no such thing as free software, at least nothing that's any good.

That and the thought of a crack for an Open Source program is HIGH-larry-us.
