This was never meant to be a symbol for hate either, but I don't fly off of my Mustang through Jewish communities and tell them my family is German so they need to get over it.



Also, education is great, but blatantly trying to cause problems with other communities by flying a flag with such a negative stigma is just wrong IMO.

The Confederate flag wasn't the symbol of a country trying to commit world wide genocide or even induce slavery for that instance. As already stated they were fighting a war for other reasons than slavery? These two are not similar in anyway??????

Whats wrong is that the Flag has negative stigma surrounding it! That is where ignorance came into play...

My roommate was watching the movie "Apt Pupil" and I was trying to explain to him that the Jewish guy in the hospital recognized the guy next to him as a Nazi he remembers from the Holocaust, and he looks at me with a blank face and says "He wasn't Jewish dude, he was German."

So you can try to educate but sometimes its better to be entertained

I care because it's counter productive to our nation (the nation you all claim to know and love). The crazy thing is that I was just like some of you not too many years ago, so I know how you feel and I know what really drives you to cling to a symbol like the confederate flag. I'm not saying that the flag has no place in our society, but there is definitely no point in purposefully stirring up emotions of people who you don't know by hanging a 8' rebel flag on your truck.

I'd like to see your citings for that "fact", I've never seen or heard of such a claim and have done a fair bit of research on the war itself. I've seen farfetched claims as high as 30,000, but none with any kinds of facts supporting it. Show me where that many blacks fought under the confederate flag please, because it seems like you just threw that number out there.

To say the Civil War was fought because of slavery is inaccurate, I agree, it was fought over individual States' rights, specifically their right to choose to have slavery or not. Slavery may not have been THE reason the war was fought, but it was an important aspect of it nonetheless. I've seen all kinds of people argue over the Confederate Flag being about States rights, but as miller said, very few of them ever really knew much more than that about it and simply did it because it's the "cool thing to do". Sure they're proud to be a southerner, but how many of them would live up to the true Southern standards that were initially fought for under that flag?

I have never been labeled as "caring". I am a goal oriented person. Everyone claims to want peace between everyone in our country and I see that as a goal. However, we will never achieve that peaceful place as long as people continue to aggravate cultural differences to satisfy some unfulfilled part of their life.

Here's a simple question:
What is the sound logic behind flying a huge rebel flag from the back of your truck other than to intimidate or aggravate other people. I have already stated this question many times in various forms, but you all have managed to dodge it by making the argument into what the flag stood for before the war. It is of much interest to me as to why some feel it important to represent the flag as part of their lifestyle when they, in fact, have no clue as to what it stands for or the way that other people feel about seeing it every day.

I would say just about zero, because a true hospitable southerner will go out of their way to recognize the good in people and realize that everything he/she does affects others in a positive or negative way.

the years leading up to the war, there were few higher praises than to be able to call yourself a southern gentleman. Women nowadays STILL swoon to those ideals, sadly it's been reduced to jokes about camaros and chasing your sister.

Those ideals still exist in many homes. It is simply rare to see nowadays, because the family has been made into a disposable item.

Also I am not clinging to the confederate flag at all. I have one in my garage that I put on the ceiling and only people I invite into my home are exposed to it. I do not force it upon anyone...and the person driving that truck has every right to fly that flag proudly if he so chooses. So what if the south lost...it is a part of this countries heritage and it lead to where this country is at right now. If you want to try and bury the flag just because some people don't like it then I dont like that you have an actor in your signature that is making fun of mentally handicapped individuals. Are you now going to take that down? I realize it is not the exact same thing but the principal is the same.
Believe me...I hate the people that fly it for the wrong reasons just as much as anyone else but I wont tell them to take it down because its their right
