Yikes! Brakes!
So, my rear brakes are shot. shot. shot.
Its embarassing because now they moan at low speeds when I'm not even touching the brakes when they're just getting warmed up. Well tomorrow I'm running around trying to find an appointment to hopefully get them done Saturday. My questions: In terms of money what should be cheaper, Monroe Muffler, or the Ford Dealership? Would either of them be able to get the parts in with 24 hours notice? And, what would I be looking at for cost, roughly? |

I know. I know I could figure it out myself, but I've never done it before, and it's a matter of time really. I dont know if I could do it myself, for the first time, between like 10 and 5. I'll talk to my dad, maybe he'll take the time to help, we'll see.

dude you wont need help, its one bolt, slide caliper up (it doesnt even come off, just slides up) pull out old pads, put new ones in (they only go in one way) and smash the piston in with a big c clamp then slide caliper up, replace bolt drive away crash into old man

We'll see. Still not real comfortable fucking with brakes alone for the very first time. But they need it. I was so close to pulling over and calling my folks for a ride tonight..

Dude, I did my brakes for the first time, changed out the rotor and the pads by myself. Not hard at ALL.

You can buy the new pads at any auto store such as autozone or orileys and it isn't worth the cost of paying someone else to do it.

The only pain in the ass part is pushing the piston in IMO. Other than that, it's easy.

Mickey Mouse. Piece of cake. Aint shit.
It's only a pain in the ass if you decide to bleed 'em out, which isn't even all that hard. Just takes 2 people. In the past I've used a big assed channel lock plier to compress the piston.

+1 to what everyone said up here. Changed my brake pads a few times myself. It's not hard.

Okay, so 7 and a half hours later...
Shit. Got the back's done, have to take it in to get the front ones done because the bolts so rusted that neither my father or I can get the calipers off. We even broke a couple sockets. It's bad. |

It's the calipers and the car itself that sucked. All original. All rust. My car's frame is not that rusty, just where I need to do shit, and all the bolts are rusted stuck.

Do they salt the roads there in Rochester, NY? Road salt rusts the hell out of stuff..
I know stuff started corroding/rusting uner my hood after just a few weeks of sitting outside in the Galveston muggy salty air... I bet water/road salt combo is just as bad if not worse.

Yeah, they salt here...
I always wanted a Fox, now I'm scared that in an older car, everything's going to look like this.. Maybe I'll buy one anyways, just the first time I do the brakes I'll donew everything 100% and paint the calipers and shit to keep from rusting. |
