Stole somewhere around 13 billion dollars from people that he was supposively investing for. Its was one of the largest ponzi scams this country has ever seen... The way they work is you get a bunch of people together to give you their money to invest and you live off of it. The trick is to keep bringing more new people in and using the new people money to give to the old people to act like you are showing returns on their money and keep rolling like that. Its like a giant wave effect...

Yea but cheaper may not be the point here. A nationwide uproar would occur for killing this guy when he didnt kill anyone.

Politically they did the right thing.

I would rather him rot in jail till he dies than give him the satisfaction of a quick and painless death. I hope he gets beat and raped every day for the rest of his life... Even that is less than he deserves. All of his clients went from being millionaires with relaxed retirements to food stamps and social security. It just isnt right...

Theres nothing to be divided up! He spent everything living his billionaire lifestyle. With no new people coming into the scam there is no new money to be split up. Everyone of his "clients" gave him millions and will not get a penny back.

its actually not cheaper

# "Elimination of the death penalty [in California] would result in a net savings to the state of at least tens of millions of dollars annually, and a net savings to local governments in the millions to tens of millions of dollars on a statewide basis." (Joint Legislative Budget Committee of the California Legislature, 09/9/99)

# Total cost of death penalty is 38% greater than total cost of life without parole sentences. (Indiana Criminal Law Study Commission, January 10, 2002)

# Since its return to New York in 1995, $160 million has been spent. The New York Daily News estimates that before the first execution takes place, $238 million will be spent.

# In addition to the funds required to try death penalty cases, the New York Department of Correctional Services spent $1.3 million to construct New York's 12-inmate death row and pays nearly $300,000 per year to guard the unit. (New York Law Journal, April 30, 2002)

now if you drag them out back, cap them and call it a day, then yea its cheaper. America unfortunately does not do that
