L - Shin splints shouldn't always come back. If your shoes are right, you should be able to work slowly up to running without shin splints. From what I understand though - some people just always struggle with them. I've given up running - I'll never be a runner, but I can hike trails and I'm sturdy as hell....

Sorry hon, not sure what advice to offer there.

RunBaby - I hate it when I see pics of myself too - I'm my own worst critic. I think the pics I just posted of myself are not very good - my ass looks fat as hell. I know it's mental - just got back into that dress so I know I can't be a wide body - but mentally, I still feel that way. Sometimes posting pics of yourself and letting others compliment you is just what you need to get that mental confidence and let go of the body image you have of yourself.

USMC....yumm- oh....I wouldn't be scared of that, I'd want to curl up and go to sleep next to it.

Had a great work out at the gym today - Used a different machine than we usually do for cable bicep curls...this one had a better view in the mirror. I almost had him take pictures of me doing it because I just couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I've some damn serious bicep and tricep definition going on now!

Exhausted though - came home and passed out for a couple hours....

Busy weekend ahead...run run run....

Mama, IMHO the best thing for a woman's self esteem is the treatment from me. All I need is a weekend. I'll have them looking, smeeling, feeling like a million bucks. They'll be glowing. I'm not talking about dirty either. I'm just talking about spending a little time together getting to each other better.

Your doctor is treating your shin splint symptoms not trying to prevent them.

Did some research on the interweb, and you may have already figured this out, but I found that the primary reason for the shin pain is generated by the flexing of your foot.

To prevent shin splints:

* Choose the right shoes. Wear footwear that suits your sport. If you're a runner, replace your shoes about every 350 to 500 miles.
* Consider arch supports. Arch supports can help prevent the pain of shin splints, especially if you have flat arches.
* Lessen the impact. Cross-train with a sport that places less impact on your shins, such as swimming, walking or biking. Remember to start new activities slowly. Increase time and intensity gradually.
* Add strength training to your workout. To strengthen your shins, try toe raises. Stand up. Slowly rise up on your toes, then slowly lower your heels to the floor. Repeat 10 times. When this becomes easy, do the exercise holding progressively heavier weights. Leg presses and other exercises for your lower legs can be helpful, too.

It's also important to know when to rest; at the first sign of shin pain, take a break. And if running gives you splints, running will give you splints. You may have to switch to another cardio exercise such as riding a bike and alternate micro muscle attention you get from yoga
