so at work I'm supposed to flag filesw that contain medical records over 300 pages. I was keeping record of everything I flagged both long hand and in my email account. Well about a week ago I was told I don't need to keep everything longhand, so I chucked them. Thismorning I was forced to delete my sent box due to being over the size limit.

Well someone dipped me in shit because apparently a file slipped through the cracks somewhere along the lines and now I can't prove that I flagged it. I know I flagged it because i remember writing the damned thing out in long hand, I even remember the Dr it was supposed to go to.

I'm just annoyed because I don't want to get blamed for this, and I know it's not my fault. When I make mistakes, I own up to them, but I know I didn't make this one. I just hope that my boss still has all my emails saved somewhere, or that the Director of Op's beleives the fact that my memory is impecable, and takes my word for it that I did in fact flag it.

your system admin should have a backup of your email.

try keeping it in an excel file next time.

even if i didn't archive it?

i had everything written out long hand but got rid of it because my supervisor gave me permission to. I never used it and never thought I would have to use it.

Lesson Learned. Keep everything.

they might back up mail profiles. some places dont. it all depends. never hurts to ask

If your using outlook for your email...create a personal folder to keep all your emails in....the stuff in your inbox and sent box are typically both in the server and on your computer (or just on the server). The personal folder will store your emails on your computer without wasting server bandwidth.

BIG +1 on the pst file (personal folder). It's saved my rectal cavity many times. Last year at work I worked in a shop with someone who decided to go off on me one day about something he assumed I knew about. I told him that I had only seen this one particular thing written about in passing via email 3 or 4 times in conversation about various other things. He said I was full of shit and told me to go outside and smoke to cool off. Instead, I opened my personal folder, pulled up a search, and searched for the specific topic... sure enough, 4 emails came up. Two of which were the same email (just a duplicate). I showed it to him and he ended up apologizing.

And just for clarification on the pst file... Microsoft recommends a certain size limit on it, something like 1.5 GB maximum. I occasionally create a backup and make a new pst file.

i believe we do have this feature, it's called archiving at my office..... i just never used it because I didn't think I needed too......
