So it turns out as a graduation gift this year my dad is going to buy me a mustang for college. He said that I could choose between a 2009 mustang gt, a 2010 mustang gt, or a 2004 cobra. I can't really decide which one... Could anyone help me on this decision? Maybe some pro's and con's and what any of you would choose. Thank you guys. Oh almost forgot, he said no matter which one we decide on we will find one with the lowest miles we can possibly find.

04 COBRA now doubt. its one of the moost sought after new edge mustangs. it has 390hp stock... and tuned you have get a solid 500 out of it. you will r4p3 basically anything.

ok first of all eliminate the 09 GT for sure if you have to chance to get the 10 Gt but i just love the Modular 281 4V 04 cobra way to much to even think twice about getting the 10 GT over it shit it has 390 hp its supercharged its right be low the shelby so we can consider it one of the king of the modulars plus it looks the meanest in my opinion also its rarer than a 10 Gt or a 09 Gt will ever be my personal favorite is the mystic cobra just look at this threads pics and im sure you will be hooked

pretty simple decision there...03/04 cobra...390 whp (ford underestimated the hp numbers)...forged bottom end...4 valve...handles pretty good...and looks pretty damn good too

i am not judgemental, if a parent buys there kid a brand new car at 18 they are spoiled plain and simple. But I wouldn't get a 04 cobra cause when you are at college driving irresponsibly and drunk i don't won't one less 04 cobra on the road lol

That's a mass generalization.

Was my first thought "Spoiled" when I read this? Can't lie, it was.

But every situation is different. Maybe this kid works hard, is a stand up guy, respects his parents a lot, and has paid for most of his car stuff.

Who knows.

I agree with you on the Cobra though. That's too much car for the age and to get for free.

Because you are right about one basic thing, whether the kid is spoiled or not, the fact remains that you just don't have the same respect for something given Vs something earned... and a Cobra ain't a good thing to test that principle on.

I say 09 GT, just because I like that style better than the 2010's...


and I would normally say 04 cobra for sure, but I'm with zippy on this... that's too much car for someone to get for free right out of high school... the respect you have for it when you work your ass off and earn with your money is much different than the respect you'll have for it if it's just handed to you...

I would say 2010 GT. Because you would be getting a car with far less miles (most likely), it has a warranty(most likely), If you got the cobra and a week later something goes wrong, your fucked, and 4v parts aren't cheap. You also get the new body style. 390hp is wayyy to much for a high school graduate, we don't need a thread in a year thats says your in a hospital and your cobra is totaled. Just go for the 2010. Not to mention, its more of a practical everyday car, some people would see a termi and enter a uncontrolable asshole mode and key it or possibly worse (happened to a guy at a car show... twice).

When I was 18 I was driving either a beat to hell Chevy Celebrity that barely ran, and then I had a Subaru GL (I believe that's what it was). I drove both of those cars like I was in Nascar. I was an IDIOT, and I'm lucky I am not dead.

First of all, what are you driving now, how long have you been driving, and do you work?

In college, lots of people get angry jealous and with all the mulletheads floating around, you'll find your car vandalized.

If you've only been driving for a short time, you probably aren't experienced enough for a Cobra (although, that would be my first pick and I sure as hell don't blame you). If you've got lots of experience under your belt and are responsible when driving, by all means, get the Cobra. And FYI, the Cobra is a far cry from your 98 GT. An entire world of difference you will notice right away.

If you don't have a job, how are you going to pay for gas and insurance? 18 with a beefy car means you shall be raped by all insurance companies.

These questions I ask not as an insult, but just some things to think about prior to making a decision.
