all i need is the new pcb, but apparently i have to swap the rom on these to get it all to work right. i just am not very good at soldering which is going to need to be done i think to swap that out.

I havent soldered in a while, but with some practice again I could probably do it for ya. I need a new soldering iron though.

Second look maybe not. I don't know if I can get the solder that perfect for that.

In most cases there will be an unlocking code stored on the PCB. Because of this you wont be able to just swap a good PCB onto your drive since the good PCB doesn't have the same unlocking code.

In other cases you may be lucky and the drive doesn't use any sort of locking/unlocking.

But to start, the first thing you need to do is get the exact same drive so you can use it's PCB. From there you can try just swapping it out, and if you're lucky that'll be the end of it....if not theres really not much else you can do as that burnt chip in your drive is the one that holds the locking/unlocking password

there better not be a damn unlock code for something i already purchased
from what i've read these drives generally work with just swapping the pcb and with teh old rom and it should work.
just not trying to spend too much on the board. find me a board that i dont have to pay like 35 for...

heres the number stamped on the board

Damn! That would be a job for the guys that bust out the microscope and the mini tip. You need specialized (expensive) equipment. Not easy for sure! I have a friend that used to do that stuff, but he had military equipment for that kind of work. You can't ask for guys that can solder, you need to change the title to something like "for those that can solder microchips onto pcb boards". I've done a fair bit of soldering on pcb boards, but only for big stuff like resistors and diodes. Even then its tricky. Are the traces burned up too? That would be more work to redo the traces, and hopefully its a single layer pcb.
