My Girl Just Got Out of Surgery

She didn't make it

Ok...Enough drama...I'm talking about my xbox lol. The MOSFET (The 2 big black squares) on the right shorted out

Here is a farther back view...The close up is taken of the front right side of the console

The donor

Piece I need extracted off donor...dime for comparison

Wired up

Connected

Sadly...still didn't work. So tomorrow I'm going to take off the old MOSFET and completely substitute in the new one and see if that will make it work.

If that doesn't work I'll have to replace the FET Drivers IC (small 8 pin SOIC chip on other side of board)

The 360 does not use the 775 socket. It uses a special 771 socket

Safi has to have all these spare electronic parts laying around for his bomb making. This is just his side hobby since he has them.

Fry's has tons of electronic components.... that is unless you are sure the one from the donor is good.

I would have taken the old one off in case it wasn't completely bad. Don't want to send incorrect voltage to something else downstream....

Every single MOSFET transistor I have had go out literally went up in smoke, leaving a burned spot on it. The majority of those were on PC motherboards. You would know it fried because the entire house smelled like roasting plastic....

I know for a fact the MOSFET on the donor is good. Only thing wrong with the donor is that it does not have a dvd drive in it (and i didn't get the cpu key before selling the drive so the mobo is pretty much useless). The only other thing that would go bad is the FET Driver IC...I'll find out if that is bad tomorrow when I install the new MOSFET completely. If thats bad I'll get it off the donor board also

Yeah...Mine isn't that bad. Mine shorted out due to me. I was working with my multimeter trying to find a 5v source to pull for a fan and i accidently touched the right pin to the middle pin

That's how I powered the modchip on my old xbox.

Just make sure you didn't fry anything else by shorting that....

I've talked to a guy I know (basically the master of the internals of game consoles...He goes by RDC over on Xbox-scene) and he said the problem is most likely in either the MOSFET or the FET IC...So I'm changing both and seeing where that gets me
