For those of you not aware, anyone that receives or sends a pornographical image of someone under the age of 18 can be charged with sexual abuse and be required to register as a sex offender...Example Jane, 16 years old, sends a picture to her boyfriend John, 17 years old...now if either party got caught, they are both in trouble for sexting and could be required to register as sex offenders.

If you do not believe me, go do a google search on teen sexting and you will see several links to credible sources on it.

After thinking about it for a while, I personally think this is absolute bullshit...back in my teenage years, the polaroid was a blessing and most of the kids knew about it. We knew we couldn't go to the grocery store to get the 35mm film developed but we did know that polaroids didn't need to get developed.

So lets say that Jane and John lived in a state that legally allowed consensual sex at the age of 16...at that age, it would be perfectly legal to fornicate, but it would be immoral and wrong to photograph (yeah that makes perfect sense).

Ok end that rant, and something on a similiar but different topic...the other day I watched a Professional Bull Riders event....well while the cowboy was riding the bull, I had seen the bull's genitial several times, but yet there is never a fuss over this...but yet when Janet Jackson had her "wardrobe malfunction" it was as if we tarnished the minds of every child that ever watched TV....Basically, I think it is asinine to think of the human body as such a taboo thing.

Yeah, I read that article and that is the basis for my debate. Now I can understand someone getting punished and registered as a sex offender if they forwarded it to several people (again can't remember the article, but this is where it all stemmed from)...well after that incident, the law has taken it quite a bit more extreme and are now enforcing it to a new level.

Now granted, if I had pictures of 15 year old girls on my computer or phone...then yes by all means I should be punished to the full effect of the law...but boyfriend and girlfriend (as example in first post) getting the same "scarlet letter" is down right wrong

i firmly disagree. i believe that religion (which is a term shrouded in controversy itself)
teaches us to be careful about seeing naked body parts.
look at my johnny that is homeschooled and has never seen a girl naked until his wedding night. no harm done
now look at shane. he saw his girlfriend naked at 14. they continued pushing further and further until one day his girlfriend is pregnant. at 16-18, his future has been decided. he cant afford college. he has to go work at pizza hut to pay for his baby's formula.

Exactly, but what is the difference? There were never laws about a polaroid picture before....hell I knew plenty of kids that would "show off" their girlfriends from a polaroid picture that was given to them....Only thing I can thing that is different is that when you receive a picture mail, it now becomes your property instead of looking at a friends polaroid at lunch break...

No, I am 29 and would not be messing with this sort of thing...but looking at it now as if I was a father of a 16 year old that now has to be registered as a sex offender for the rest of their life.

Again, I must ask the question...why is it considered immoral for the boyfreind and girlfriend to share naked pictures, but it is completely moral and legal to have sex???

I dont think it is immoral for two peeps who feel something for eachother should share pics. as long as they dont share the pics and keep it to themselves it should be okay. but then if that happens they would never get caught so it doesnt matter if it were illegal anyways...
