Blackra1n Jailbreak for iPhone just released!

This is supposed to be able to jailbreak any iPhone, any ipod touch, running any firmware.

I just ran it on my iPhone 3GS with 3.1 firmware and it took less than a minute. Plug your phone in, make sure itunes is NOT up. Run blackra1n (get it from blackra1n.com), and it will do the work for you. Like I said, it was done in under a minute on mine. It installs one app, and from there you can install Cydia, Icy, or some other app.

Fucking awesome shit.

I'm assuming you have done this fluffy. Are you running the 3.1.1 firmware or the 3.1?

Have they been able to fully jailbreak the phones now? I remember after 3.0 you still had to use the same ugly ass keyboard and couldn't change it, among other things.

From what I understand, it works on EVERY iPhone OS. I'm running 3.1 firmware. If I decided to update to 3.1.2 and rejailbreak, it's supposed to work without a problem. I know the dev team has been struggling to get something working for Windows users and 3.1, but they haven't been able to figure it out. This geohot guy is a silly little freak. How he figured this one out, I have no idea.

As for advantages of jailbreaking, it allows you to fully customize everything. I just got through creating catgories for myself and cleaned up about 5 pages of icons on my springboard. Makes organizing it a lot easier. Plus I like custom icons and sounds, etc...

I've been using the DEV teams unlocking and been waiting for it. I guess this is the same guy that released purplera1n when the DEV wouldn't release the jailbreak for 3.0.

I might have to try this out.

To get the free apps, once it's jailbroken, you open the app "blackra1n" and with it install Cydia. Once in Cydia, you have to manually install a repository. The url is Welcome to Cydia.hackulo.us!. From there, you run a search for installous. Install that, and bickity bam. You get the apps from the app store free. BUT, I don't trust it. That's one thing I don't mess with because the last thing I want is to get a spiffy new lawsuit in the mail.

As for the question about jailbreaking being reversible, yes, it is. You just restore through itunes and it'll make your phone like stock again.
