Once you have done that they wont test you again. The best way to avoid this for those of you that think they should be killed for doing what is their born instinct is to not buy a dog that is of protective nature.....buy a poodle, or a terrier or some sort and you dont have to worry about the dominance issue. I have raised and bred dobermans and my parents raised and bred dobermans before me and I havent owned one yet that didnt test its owner once it started becoming an "adult" the females are even worse, they are usually more aggressive and more protective.
My dog isn't techincally a dominant breed but even now at 2 she still tries to test me every once in a while. When she does I just pin her and lay on her for 5-10 mins until she gets the point that she isn't going anywhere until I let her. And when I do let her up I don't let her just run off, I make her sit by me until she calms down and will walk away calmly

My best friend has an american pit and that dog has SERIOUS dominance issues. She showed up at my house with it and it tried to attack me no less than 3 times, requiring her to hold it's leash and sit on it.. the last time I hit it upside the head w/ a hammer but that didn't even stop it. That dog is going to kill someone because she doesn't know how to control it.
Oh yeah, I propose a HARDCORE DOGS CLUB
Good call. She was just scared and trying to protect herself. I wrestle and play fight w/ my dog all the time. To the point where she will start growling and baring her teeth. Even if she bites me its just a quick nip. If I'm not quick enough to get my hand pulled away when she makes good contact she won't bite down or she'll immediatly pull away. She's trained well enough to go from being worked up and wanting to bite me to licking me in the matter of seconds. It just takes some time

yeah nut will play with me and show some teeth but she won't bite or even play-bite (she'll snap at air, but never seems to get close to me, which I think she does on purpose) and as soon as I say "enough" she stops and calms right down.

My dogs are always fed dried dog food, but we do give them table scraps. According to my vet, table scraps are good for dogs. She said to give them their regular dog food, and the scraps along with it... If the dog is constipated, give it scraps that are a little more greasy, like gravy or something. Just don't substitute dog food completely with scraps....

Switching dog foods is not a very good thing to do all at once. Particularly if the dog has been eating the exact same type of food for several years. It can make their stomach sick.. diarrhea, constipation, etc., consequentially affecting their mood. Imagine yourself eating nothing but vegetables for several years of your life and then one day deciding to eat nothing but steaks. You're going to have issues.

And as far as the dog snapping at you, how old is she? Puppies and young dogs love to play. Larger breeds do not realize how rough they might be playing. When my dog was young, she would always play kind of rough, jump on you, ram into you, bite at your heels as you tried to leave the yard (she wanted to play more) She grew out of that though. She is gentle with kids, but if someone (adult) comes that she doesn't know, she will damn near tear the fence down.

Any time a dog wants to regain control, never hit them. Be firm with them, roll them over on there back and rub their chest and don't let them up. Its a submissive position for a dog and it shows your dominance w/o anger.
