taking off the bumper. Good or bad?

Im talking about the actual bumper, i have seen some guys on here in the past when dealing with whieght reduction and i have my bumper cover off now (getting repainted) so is this just a dumb idea for a car that sees the track 1-2times every couple months?

And does it provide any support for the cover?

I'm not really familiar with the Newedge chassis.. but with the 87 and newer foxbodies the cover kind of sits on the bumper. The 86 and older foxes (four eyes) had steel front bumpers, but the 87 and newer cars had fiberglass ones. The fiberglass bumper and the cover together isn't very heavy.

The SN95 I saw in the junkyard looked like the bumper was a sheet metal shell with styrofoam inside of it. Not sure if they changed that over the years or not.

If you drive the car on the street, I would keep it on. If someone backed into the front of your car without a bumper inside the cover supporting it, even a slow impact would probably bust the lights and everything. Then again, the headlights may need the support of the bumper to rest on. It might shake like hell on the street without it.
