stay away from DPMS, the only thing they make thats not garbage is their .308lr's. You want to learn about building your own AR go to ar15.com and go to the build it yourself section in the ar15 subsection. But do yourself a favor and just read, don't go in there and start asking questions. Just find a stripped lower, put it together with a RRA lower parts kit or CMMG lower parts kit. Buy a upper from bravocompanyusa.com, fill it with a bcm bolt assembly, oh and for the upper i would recommend a mid-length gas system also.

aimsurplus.com has some nice lowers for under 100 bucks. You really shouldn't pay any more than 140 bucks for a stripped lower unless you are buying a billet lower, which are fuckin sweet but run in the 300 dollar + range. They are actually in production for a billet mega lower with a matching billet mega upper reciever. which is like a work of art let me tell you.

and the lower receiver is the only thing that has to go thru a FFL and depending on what state law you have to abide by background check and all that shit, but every other part can be sent directly to your house with no problems

rock river arms are fuckin garbage too lol. Their lower parts kit ain't bad but they are junk rifles with bad gas key staking jobs. Colt, Bushmaster, Danial Defense, LMT, Larue Tactical, all great ar15's.
