I've read it. That in no way justifies anyone believing that getting any virus that can kill you as no big deal. IMHO of course.

Having said that I felt the same way as you when I was much younger. Before I lost two people to complications of flu sickness. People that weren't unhealthy, or had a low immune system.

Just saying, no type of flu should be taken lightly.

Correct. Just like people die of complications of HIV/AIDS.. not so much the HIV/AIDS itself. Regardless I wouldn't want AIDS or H1N1 or the flu when it all comes down to it. We really take for granted when getting the flu that we eventually will get better. I don't think anyone that has died from the flu believed that they would ever die from getting the flu. And when you have someone that has died from any sort of illness that was very close to you, you tend to not take it for granted anymore IMHO.

actually I had my best friend die of diabetes all alone....she was found dead on the couch when her sister got home...my mom got walking pneumonia from the flu a while back, but thats cuz she tried to do too much...something tells me that if someone who NEVER works out runs a mile yesterday then they shouldn't be an ass to me...I was simply pointing out that he usually likes that i ask him if he needs anything except this last month he's been acting really strange and that was just uncalled for.

and when i'm sick i'm not a mean person.

If someone has COPD their respiratory function is already compromised so it doesn't take much more to push them over the edge.

The way death can be the result of any severe respiratory infection, is that inflammation caused by the virus and its toxins travels to the bronchial "tree" and lungs, causing pneumonia with less exchange of oxygen due to swelling there. In some cases the swelling thickens the trachea so much that a tracheotomy must be performed to allow air to get into the lungs. Eventually, if the patient has little resistance to it, the swelling causes too much fluid in the lungs, making breathing impossible. That's what causes death, which is quite rare when early recognition and treatment of symptoms occurs.

The flu has alway killed vulnerable populations (very young, elderly, immunocompromised, frail and unwell), while making young and healthy people feel dreadful for a few days.
This sounds awfully familiar

That's just horrible.
my mom got walking pneumonia from the flu a while back, but thats cuz she tried to do too much...
She recovered right?

Dump his ass then?

Depends what one would call mean as to say if I was. Sometimes when I am not feeling good, I ask that I don't get bothered. Is that being mean? Surely not. It means I am so sick, anyone bothering me makes me worse. I guess I have sympathy for those that don't feel good because I've been in many cases where I felt like death.

there is a nice way to say things though...saying, "i don't wanna talk right now" makes someone think you are mad at them.

Typically when i'm sick I ALWAYS say "thanks but i'm alright"...no need to make someone feel bad for caring.
my mom did recover.
