Exhaust flamethrower

So I was watching 2 Fast 2 Furious with my roommate today (don't laugh lol), and we were discussing how awesome it would be to have flames coming out of our tailpipes. So being an engineer and all, it got me thinking about what it would take to build one

Essentially you'd need an o/r pipe since the cats aren't there to burn off the excess fuel, an ignition coil, a pair of spark plugs, and the necessary fuses and switches to make the whole thing work.

Has anyone ever done this before? I think it's more of a badass hotrod move than rice since most riced out 4 bangers still get 30 mpgs and don't just dump fuel into the exhaust like our cars do. I really want to tackle this project but wanted to get some insight from MM first since I may be overlooking some crucial info.

Thanks!

all you need is a spark plug installed towards the end of the mid pipe you need to drill a hole in the mid pipe and make thread and screw the plug in and then run the wiring from the plug to the center counsel with a switch or a button so when you rev up some of the remaining unburned traces of fuel will be shot out through the exhaust as flames.... whala ricer boy haha just had to throw that in there man.... but thats the old school way of doing it reps

Asian, why did you remove the part about granny shifting and double clutching? That was hilarious, but just having a jacked bald dude in your passenger seat sounds like a carjacking gone horribly wrong and ending in some gay porn scene...

Not trying to be a dick, I just miss reading that and quietly laughing to myself

your forgetting the coil. you need a coil to produce the spark. a 12v source will not do it. a magneto type coil off model a's and model t's work good. thats how they did them back in the 70s, but nowadays they have kits that you can buy for it

Don't know if any of you guys saw that but I had to change it back in a hurry lol

Most of the kits don't include the coil or plugs, which essentially make up the entire kit. I'm trying to figure out what the "spark control module" is that all of the kits include. There are a few kits on ebay for cheap but again, all of them are selling the control module and switch rather than the spark plugs and coil

I'm surprised you aren't getting ripped on for this being a ricer mod. I personally think it is really cool, I'm with you on the old school hot rod effect. Like they said, not too tough, hardest thing would be getting the right coil to get your spark

I'm going to call not rice. It was a hotrod thing for way longer then ricers ever existed. Fast and Furious only stole it recently. If a ricer is behind you at a stop light eating your bumper...I wonder if they would be able to see the flames melting their body kit bumper if you gave it a few nice revs? Would also probably work wonders to deter tailgaters.

Question: Does the car dump enough fuel into the exhaust already to produce a substantial flame? Or would he have to modify his A/F ratio for when he does it? If so I wouldn't do it.. not good for the car.

No, you would need a tune to dump fuel. Like 8:1. You can retard the hell out of the spark so it doesn't burn much. It will drive like ass, but shoot fire! I think there are other options where you inject propane into the exhaust tip. Seems like an easier way. Once i saw a video of some rednecks shooting 30' flames out the back!

i think this would be unnecessary beating on your car for something that would just end up burning ur rear bumper.

just add a small bottle of lp and a n20 Solenoid and make the flames massive
