Disappointed

The new 2011 SuperDootie.... will not have a ZF6 option... 6 speed auto only... I am very interested in the 6.7 and everything I Have read and seen about it, seems to be very interesting... I like the new body style ALOT better than the current SuperDootie, but no Handshaker option?

Not that I can/would buy one, but why not make it atleast a special order? pisses me off... it would not have been that much more to use all the ZF6 parts that are already on these trucks except for the bellhousing and writing a few new programs in the computer.... Seems like they might be shooting themselves in the foot.

I know the Dmax has not had a handshaker option for 4 years or so, but I dont know if they lost any customer base without it...

Hope the 6.7 delivers...

This was Chief Engineer Chris Brewer's Answer when asked about bout the manual transmission....

Chris Brewer: Never say never, John--however, only 1 to 2 % of our customers buy manuals today. We are offering a new 6 speed auto trans that will offer substantially better fuel economy than the 5 speed auto it replaces as well the manual 6 speed. The new 6 speed also offers Select Shift capability to allow you to hold a given gear similar conceptually to a manual trans.

Thats a good answer and yea he is right. Not many people opt for a manual trans these days in trucks. The only 2008+ deisel I ever drove was a manual and its also the only fully optioned manual ive ever seen. It was a nice truck.

But I would rather have the new select shift auto than a manual cause you still have the same benifits of holding the gear and you can choose when you shift.

But if I was towing something EVERYDAY I would go for a manual. More durable and it'll last longer. and heat up less.

That being said tho I also dont see why they cant make it even an option. I mean im sure it would make a few people order em.

But I dont see why they dont make a 6speed option in GT's either so who knows. They make you spend 40K more and get a GT500 to have an extra gear lol

Yeah, being how much stronger automatics are over manuals these days, I'm not surprised that Ford's dropped the option. Personally, I don't think manual trannys have any place in a truck anyway, and I'd never buy one that was a stickshift. Cars, I'm just about the opposite, there are VERY few where I'd buy them if they don't have a stick.

Here's hoping that SVT never falls to even offering an automatic in the Cobra.
