If you don't have a .edu email, you have to submit a form and proof of school...proof of tuition, or grades or something. I think they said it will take about 2 weeks to verify it that way. There is a link on the buy page on how to do it.

I've been running Windows 7 Professional for about 4 weeks now. I love it (I work in the IT field and the company I work for is a Premier Microsoft partner so we got copies of it before the release). Def. upgrade and skip Vista. It runs smooth, I love the task bar and the interface.

Am I going to have to download all of my programs or will it just upgrade the operating system? I'm assuming that Microsoft Office 2007 will work fine as well, correct? How long did it take you guys with say 3M DSL?

I've been using Win 7 ultimate for a few weeks now. Its the final release, activated, legit, and all that fun stuff. The disc was the full install and had x86 and x64 on it.

If I want, I can buy w7 ultimate upgrade from my school in either x86 or x64 for $15.

So far my only complaint is... WTF did they do to my display properties window?? You know, the one that comes up in XP when you right click the desktop and click properties. They changed it around some with Vista, but DAMN. It used to be so simple.

I'm damn happy that vista drivers work with it though.

ok got it updated and all, now its just a matter of cleaning up and getting my old stuff back on....they have the easy transfer thing, but i dont need a lot of the stuff that was on there, so im just doing apps one by one and reloading what i need....very smooth transfer, very simple. windows 7 works awesome so far.

I've seen some websites (like ATI's website) that don't show drivers for my video card for windows 7... but according to M$ (and my own testing) the Vista drivers do work.

Mine was the same.. it said standard vga graphics adapter as well... I downloaded the Vista driver and installed it, and it works great.

I didn't install all that catalyst control shit though..(I dont like it)

I opened the ATI driver file I downloaded, and it auto extracted the files to c:\ATI

Then it tried to auto-run the ATI catalyst install program but I cancelled it.

I went back to device manager and installed the driver manually.. by opening the standard vga graphics adapter, going to the driver tab, clicking update driver, then browsing to the C:\ATI folder that it made. It found the driver in there and installed it. After a reboot, all was well. No more 'standard vga graphics adapter'

Awesome!

Yeah I said the same thing back when XP first came out.. it seemed so foreign and odd that they would put 'My Computer" and "Internet Explorer" (and everything else) on the start menu, but its all second nature now lol.
