Meh, mustangs do kind of seem half assed. Ford didn't make them to compete, they made them to sell them. If they were made to be better and faster, the fox would have ended up with the 351 in place of the 302, and they would have never stuck a 2v in it. Imagine if newedge GTs were all 4v, and the SVT stangs were dohc 5.4s. Ford shouldn't have waited til 05 to change the suspension first drawn up back in the late 70s. It wouldn't have been such a stretch for ford to make a better mustang, they just dont. LS1 guys wouldn't be shrugging off GTs as much if ford actually put an honest effort towards the car. Give the gm guys credit though, a stock ls1 will take a gt, and if they feel like swapping parts out, a NA ls1 will take a boosted stang. Got to love both sides, id trade my gt for an ls1 firebird, but im sure ill never find that trade.

Ford has always been slower. We have always need to do some work to compete with GM it's how it's been for years.

Ford designs product to sell to the widest market. The reason the Fox didnt get the 351 and got a 302 instead was because of emissions... and to a certain extent making the car affordable to drive as well (fuel economy). Ford continues this trend heavily in their reliance on small displacement V8's that make good fuel economy. Our car, in performance terms, is a car for people who like a challenge, and a cheap base to start on that has HUGE potential with very little effort. Afterall, we are the original pony car that has survived 45 years of economic downturns and emissions to come out to be second place in performance... besides, there has yet to be seen any indication of what 2011 brings other than this new "5.0" so we'll see the playing field tilt back in our favor as it has been. I really like the S197 platform and it's got a lot of improvements over the previous generations. There is only so much that could be done and still keep the price economic... I really think all thats it is ditching the LRA and going for IRS, or at least offering IRS as an option for those who want curvies so those of us who do Drag can keep our LRA ![]() Really though, for what we've got, it's an impressive product for how cheap they are compared to the competition and considering what we have performance wise. That also brings up the fact that Chevy has always been second or third to produce their car, giving them an advantage on beating the competition. Ford hasn't stopped producing the Mustang, so Chevy had a TON of time to compare and improve on the design. This was true even in the 60's. Ford will counter and we will be top dog untill Government Motors releases their new version and Fiat, well.... lets not even bring up the Fiat Challenger

I've heard the horror stories but what I hear most grumblings about is the lack of an IRS. The European market wont touch it on that alone (which is also why Ford does not advertise it openly there).
Personally, I think a poor racer blames his car, for what a Mustang lacks in corner carving it makes up for in straight aways, and it's not like the S197 platform and the new 2010+ suspensions are not capable of corner carving. Everyone blames the LRA... Personally, I think it makes corners fun. Of course, that doesnt sell the car, but then again, most people I talk to about racing Mustangs hate it because of the LRA, when none of them have actually driven one, which I kind of guess, devalidates their claims doesnt it?

I'm scared I'm gonna break my IRS. Which is why I say that, and parts for it are expensive. I loved my SRA when I had it, and I'm going back to one. People will complain about everything over everything because it isn't 100% what they want. So I don't even bother with what other people say about it.
