My teacher did a similar problem to the first one but I think he did it a different way in class. I can't remember

sorry man, im so tired today. i cant seem to figure it out...

the first one id divide 20,000 by 4 but thatll make it a square, not a rectangle...

2nd one, i remember doing this few weeks back. i cant seem to solve it properly tonight though...

sorry cant be much of a help... its been a really long day...

Optimization is the chapter you need to review if you are in calculus.

Lefty, MustangMatt96GT is absolutely correct. and yeah thats the only way to do it. I know this info has already been said, but it's a second opinion w/ the same answers which counts as a check

In the first page of Matt's work; is that an "8x+5y" that P equals? Not an "E", correct?

I'm just making sure it's P=8x+5y, right? 8x being the 8 x's I'm trying to find right? And where the hell does the C come from or did you just make up your own variable as a place holder?

I took this class (Business Calculus for me) last semester and failed... got to take it again in the Spring Semester... sigh

Yeah the p=8x+5y Then you got to make Y= something in x's so you have the same variables... so y= (20000-8x)/5

and that "C" is actually a zero, the scanner just didnt get it all... that is setting the first derivative to zero to find the critical points, or in other words the max's and mins of the original function.

To maximize profit you will have to take the derivative of the function and find where it equals 0. This is where increasing profit meets point of diminishing returns. As far as I know, that's the only way to do it.
