First car

Ok, this is it, the hunt is on for my first car. I was supposed to get the Mustang, then the Ranger, but my grandparents sold both and I got nothing. So then I hunkered down, applied for 5 different jobs. I have no answers yet but I plan on applying for more jobs. I am sick of hearing bull about I'll get this or that or maybe this. I'm gonna get a job and buy my own damn car. I still have about 10 months (give or take) before i get my license. I plan on having a budget of $2,500 (maybe more). Keep in mind, insurance, gas, and driving in the snow. I have already ruled out the 1999+up grand am GT's, that was my original plan until some idoit at school bought one and I dont want to be gay and copy him.

2500 can get you a very nice 89 F-150 short wide with a v-8 auto and new tires.

lol... good start on busting your ass for jobs. Grandparents/parents love to see their grandchild/child helping themselves. If they see you trying to help yourself then that will make them want to help you more. At least this has been my experience with things like this. Good luck on finding a car.

Ya, but I hang out with the "hicks" as my grandparents call them. They chew, smoke, drink and I dont. But I do like loud ass trucks, jacked up, big rims and tires, big ass CB antennas, and some country music. They are afraid I'll turn into one of them.

Im lookin at 2 door (maybe 4), fail wheel drive(for the snow), and a coolness factor.

if you look VERY close, you can see it says "Baker" under the FX4 instead of off road. I had those stickers made for me to be a lil unique.

I "had" one for a long time. But mf123 prolly has more choices, but I'm not sure if he does or not.

Insurance rates will always vary between states, driving expericance, year of car, saftey features, ect.

You seem to have a good idea on what you want in a car, but also be open minded to all possibilites out there. I remember when I was buying my first car, I was in a similar situation as you. My parents couldn't afford to buy me a car so I went out, got a job, and went car hunting. At the time my opitions were only Mustangs, Camaros, and Trans Ams. I wanted a V8 and rear wheel drive. Well, I found a really nice Trans AM but someone offered the person more money and they took it. A good friend of mine who drove an RX-7 at the time, called me to tell me about an RX-7 he found for sale in my price range. At first I told him no way man. I'm not getting a Japanese car, and its 1.3L. F that! LOL. He then told me, "um, you need a car more than anything. This is great car at a great price, and it sure as shit beats riding your bicycle." He had a damn good point. I ended up buying that car and fell in love it. Since then I've owned two RX-7s and now I have an RX-8 and can't imagine my life without owning a rotary car.

So yea, keep you mind opened to what cars are out there. Also, be sure and get insurance quotes on any car before you buy it. You don't want to buy a car and realizse you can't drive it cause the insurance will murder you. Also call around. Call as many insurance companies as you can. You will be very surprised how much one companies rate will be compared to another.

Good luck! Being dedicated to working for your car is the best first start you can have. Plus, you will appriciate your more because you bought it yourself.
