Not really. Along with the extra chassis rigidity (which a fox-4 isn't going to match with just SFCs), you also have the stock 3-link rear suspension in the S197 which is a HUGE improvement over the previous 4-link, and the front has improved geometry (correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the S197s have also coil-overs up front, instead of the prior inboard-spring setup?).

To get a '79-'04 to handle like a stock S197 will take you at least a grand in parts (NOTE: I'm not talking lateral g's here, that could be accomplished with a set of tires) and you still wouldn't have the weight balance of the newer car.

You sir are correct.

If you are going to upgrade, wait until you are able to get a 3V.

A full bolt on 3v will be neck and neck with a blown sixxer.
