Ok opinions.. plz

As most of you know I have a 09 sixxer. This was suppose to be a back and fourth car for college. Um well turned into a "race" car..

there are two options for me.

1.) keep the sixxer, turbo, blow it up and then put a better engine in it (built v8). I've put over 10k worth of stuff on the car already. Its fun racing the guys and whooping them with a sixxer, and doing something different.

2.) sell it, go under and get the car I want. which would be a gt500.

I want to get a house soon, and the car payments are needing to be finished. So if I get the gt500 I've have to restart on payments, and wait for a house.

just lots of questions.

Buy a house first and a car second no if, ands, or buts. No offense, but you would be financially ignorant to buy something that quickly depreciates over something that not only would make you happy but would also retain its value and let you build up some equity.

I agree with 1ff, again.

Keep the sixxer, have fun with it, buy a house.

then share the wealth with me!

I've been saving (for the house). I just want to turbo the sixxer, get that paid off, then a house.

I'm just scared of being alone, all the time! hahah couldn't do it in a apartment, so how will I do in a big house.

You could always rent out a room in the house.

How old are you?

I would most definitally buy the house before even turboing the 6er. Or take the money your droping into the car and start putting that towards the principle on the car to get it paid off quicker.

Just turned 22...

The sixxer is a year from being paid off. I'm not worried about the money part. by the time I turbo it the car I will be done with car payments.

saved 20k for the house already.

i think 1ff is onto something. once you turbo your 6er it will turn into a money pit, and you will blow through all that money you have saved. sure having a badass car is cool, but having a garage to park it in that is your own is much cooler.

I think right at 9200.. and it was a 30k loan.

basically half of what I pay in car payments, will go to the car. then thinking the other half will go to bills when I get the house.

This is another thing. My second job will NOT hold for another 2 years. It's too hard on me. esp since I have arthritius from it in my knees. (I exercise race horses, then jump horses for the guy also) Thats half my income so saving right now is a big thing. Just really worried about getting hurt...

Unless your paying extra every month to bring down you principle your not gettnig that paid off in 12 months or less. Is this what you figured up off what you pay or what your statements say. Alot of people get misled when it comes to paying off a car. They figure since they pay $500/month and have been paying on it for two years they have paid off 10k or so of it and this is not the case. Out of your payments on a mere fraction is going to the principle.

Either way. If I were in your shoes, I would take that $20k you have saved and pay the car off now and get out of the future interest payments. Take the money you would spend on the car and start building your downpayment back up. Once you have it back up to around 17-20k, put that down on a 100k house, this will net you a 500/mo payment depending on your property taxes. Then start making $1k payments on your house and if you do this for the five years your there you will get the loan on the house down to where you only owe like 20%. Then in three years you will be in a great position where you can buy a 180k house, put down about 60 or 70k on it, and you have a real nice house at 27 and have the mortgage payment ( back at $500 ) of the smaller house. Then you can start playing around and getting neck deep in debt to get whatever car you want.

You can take or leave my advice but I did this and at 26, I bought the house I live in now and an 2006 Aston Martin DB9 Convertible.
This is a proven way to get a GREAT start to life. I was in your exact same place when I was 21 ( excpet I had a 91 GT and a 95 explorer that were both paid off ). Now Im living in a house that nicer than most of my friends parents houses and my payments were still only $500/mo.

Its really easy to get drawn into the shiny and flashy things like a GT500 but I think it would be a terrible mistake for you to go out and get that now as you need more of a solid foundation for your life before you should get something like that.
