Becoming legal through military

This was brought up on another thread that is getting off topic so i post this here so we can stay on topic there.

Basicly the situation is:

Should we alow people who are illegal aliens become citizens through joining the military?

Yes. I served with many people who would have and did put their life on the line for their fellow soldiers and this country. That gives anyone to the right to citizenship in this country IMO.

I agree, as long as, as soon as they sign up, they are paying taxes and "walking the line."

i agree. if you put forth the effort to join the military in order to become a u.s. citizen then yes. i serve with a couple of people now that are doing the same thing and for them it is worth it.

I agree with you guys if they are willing to put there lives on the line to become a citizen then more power to them let them become a citizen.

Just so its not all agreeing when we got off topic someone did pull up a good point of sycological stability. He brought up fort hood and that insadent. What would happen if we went to war with Mexico and had a lot of Mexican Americans fighting could we trust them to fight there birth country. He thinks that we should have them go through more extencive syco evals.

I am all for allowing them to become citizens after service. If they are willing to raise their right to serve and protect, then they have every right to become a US citizen.

My feelings on this have been written about in detail in the other thread. I will post more as needed.

A background though. I have served overseas with non citizen soldiers and will do so again without problem.

MP i can copy your opinions here if you want. I just thought that more people would respond to this topic if it was its own thread and not in a thread that started out talking about illegals using the system.

"Yes, you can get citizenship through military service. For someone to say it's fucked up look at Ft Hood, to me is asnine. That is a 1 in a million case. As well as the fact ath he was a US Citizen first. Last week in Iraq they just had a swearing in ceremony for those who got their citizenship in this manner. Those people have already done more for this country before they were citizens then most of ours will do in their entire lives. I have served with people in the military who were not citizens yet, they loved this country enough to stand up and say, I will go to war for it! How many Americans will do that?

Also, I am sick of everyone assuming that every Mexican they see is illegal. That is as retarded of a statement as saying all muslims are terrorists, or all blacks are on welfare, or all whites have little dicks (ok, so the last one might be true lol). My roommate is Mexican. He was born here. His parents both came here and met here. His dad got his citizenship many years ago. His mothers English is still not that great, and everyone assumes she is an illegal who is here to take their jobs. She is not. His parents worked their ass off all their lives to give their children a good life and the "American Dream". His father died a few years ago. But because of their hard work she now has her condo in the mountains and her brand new BMW. All legally."

Then we got into discussing fort hood. And that is when the guy brought up the fighting your birth country/family oregins and metal stability of that kind of situation.

"The thing is, we are not at war against a religion! We are not against Muslims. All soldiers need to go through psych evals. Not just Muslims. Everyone of us has a breaking point.
How many Muslims do you know? How many have you served with? How many have you met in their country who you happen to be fighting a war in? I can tell you that I have served with Muslims, both in the US Army and in the Iraqi Police Forces. I have met thousands in a country who we are at war with. Almost all have been good honest people who just want to make sure they are doing everything they can to stop the violence and bring peace to an unstable region."

I think this sums up MP's opinion for the most part.

Num1, sometimes I want to bish slap you. I never said that we shouldn't let them.
I pointed out a fundamental flaw in the system, and not one of you can disagree with it if you possess an iota of common sense.
If a Japanese guy joins the army to become an American, is a good soldier for 5 years, and then we go to war with Japan, the army doesn't care where he came from, they'll send him over there and expect him to frag out on his homeland. It's stupid of us.
I am not saying that all the guys that go through this program are terrorists, and it's not just foreign ones. Maj. Hasan was an American citizen before he decided he wanted to go to mosque with terrorists and email Al Quaeda operatives.
ANYONE WITH NOTICEABLE TIES, BE THEY RELIGIOUS OR CULTURAL, TO AN ENEMY STATE, SHOULD BE EVALUATED.
Now, I also believe that, as a whole, our soldiers' mental stability is ignored. All of our people need more monitoring, evaluation, and counseling. I am not saying that at this point in time Muslim service members should be suspect or targeted. I am saying that we need to realize that some of them might have second thoughts about who we are fighting, such as Maj. Hasan did, and we need to do what we can to make sure these guys are mentally stable before we send them to war. The tragedy at Fort Hood happened because of our ignorance of the mental state of our soldiers and the monster that is political correctness.

BTW. I'm gonna put you on ignore if you can't learn to spell, man.

Well i wanna bitch slap you back at times since you wont shut the hell up about my spelling. Anyway i did not say that you were against it you brought up a good point so i thought i would bring it up here for people to look at and think about. In no way was i trying to make you look like a bad guy. Considering i didn't say who said it would support that.

Sorry if you think i made you out to look like a bad guy didn't mean to.
