I learned on our mustang and it was hard as hell to drive. My jeep is another story, easy as pie to drive. Just taught a girl a few days ago in about half anhour.

to the OP, you poor bastard. I tried teaching my sister and my wife and forget it had them both in tears after yelling at them. Best way to do it just let them take the car when you're NOT around. Something about us guys being in the car with them just doesn't work.
Good Luck!

I have had my 18 year old daughter driving my Mustang GT with 4.10's, Hurst shifter, and the race tune a few times already.

It can be done with patience.

I taught 1 girl in my life how to drive stick and I will never do it again. After weeks of teaching her and a rollercoaster of a ride I had to replace my clutch pad on my old 90 LX 351. I will not teach my wife how to drive due to this reason.

Find a hill that has barely any traffic. Park the car at the top where it has a lot of room to roll down. Set the e-brake get out. When she gets behind the wheel have her put one foot on the brake and the other pushing in the clutch. Take the e-brake and off tell her to take her foot off the brake and let out the clutch until it grabs, then give it gas and let the clutch come all the way out. Thats how I learned, but I had 3 $5,000 snowmobiles behind me lol!

At least she wasn't trying to learn with my car. 5.0 5 speed with stock 2.73 gears. If you don't gas it, you will stall it. If you gas it too much you will spin to one side without rolling forward; REAL easy to do if the road is wet. (new Yokohama tires, slicker than owl shit. Never again will I buy any more of those.)

My dad's pickup on the other hand.. 1 ton 4x4 chevy diesel.. with a 5 speed and 4.11 gears.. you can stop on a hill and let the clutch out in 2nd without touching the gas, and it will take off by itself. Only downside is the gas pedal is REAL touchy with those gears. If you aren't real smooth with the gas pedal, it will either put you back in the seat or put you into the dash.

I teach with zero gas.

just use a place that is slightly downhill and tell her to use ONLY the clutch to get the car moving. Once she can understand that, she will kind of understand how the clutch works. Then you can go to flatland and work on using the gas/clutch mixture.

I dunno. I'm not much of a teacher. I can't explain shit very well because I'm a learn/do by example type of person. I learn by visual shit.

When I saw my dad drive a stick, I picked it up pretty easily. It took me one, 1 hour drive to get the basics down be able to start an old Ford Escort off without any issues.

I'll trythe "no gas" method next time. I might let her use my car for like 10 attempts... If I have to replace my clutch again while I own this car from now on (won't be much longer) I will probably set it on fire.

Make her drive a riding lawn mower and mow the lawn for a few years. That way you don't have to do it, plus she gets 'experience using the clutch.'

Win freakin win.

+ 1 on no gas.

ive taught my brother how to drive a stick. no yelling=better way to teach. my dad tried to teach me but all he does is yell, which make me even more nervous. nervous plus clutch dont mix well. so teach her calmly and she'll eventually get it. like zip said, it takes practice.
