I learned to drive a stick pretty quick. Bought the car on a Tuesday, my dad gave me a few hour long lessons on normal roads. He only let me drive in a parking lot the night I bought it. After that it was drive it for real or don't drive it at all. Took me maybe 3 days to get to the point I could shift without throwing my passengers around. Now it's easy as pie and I'm dreading teaching my gf to drive a stick. My dad kind of taught me to drive it by "balancing" the pedals. When the clutch is coming out, the gas starts going in. Using that I never stalled the car until I was off driving it on my own and got distracted or something.

I offerd to teach my gf.. like said, knowing how to drive a manual is a valuable skill. My old man used to have a `95 silverado 5 spd that was a great manual to learn on.. unfortunately he sold it and I have nothing to teach her in. I tried the cobra.. bad idea.. clutch is so stiff she cant even push it in half way.. lol.. o well
