Just got back from the Fire Department

OMG it was soooo cool I have never been in one and chilled with the crew or anything... My friend works at a Fire Department and invited me down so I went and he showed me around and I felt like a little kid in a candy store LOL!!!

So next week going on a ride along with paramedics then going following week with a ride along on the fire truck!

Im so stoked!! I even got to talk to the captain he was awesome!

I intend to start applying when I get my EMT.

Thats is all!

It's tough to get him to talk about it. It wreaked havoc on his body.

His knees are shot. His back is shot. His chest wall muscles are fucked. He started waking up in the middle of the night a few years ago not knowing where he was or who is is. Because when my old man (Norm) started in the business, they weren't wearing oxygen masks at that time. So he breathed in a shitpile of chemicals over the early years of his career.

But that's why they are usually considered heros. They fucking run into burning buildings.

did it for 5 years as you know. no regrets. the only regret i have is not having time for it anymore and my body starting to give out on me at a early age(neck bends the wrong way, knee problems, planter fasitis, others). its a passion not a job. you either have it in you or you dont. its by far the most rewarding thing i have ever had the pleasure to experience. its hard because you will see alot of things most people will never have to see. do alot of things people say your crazy for doing.

A few of my aunts, uncles, cousins, and pastor are volunteer firefighters in different small towns in the county. My great-uncle just stepped down as chief and is now asst. chief; his son is the chief now... in one of the small towns. My grandpa fought back in his day; many, many years ago.

I guess when you know most of the people in your town, its obviously not big enough to finance its own fire department. But yet, someone has to stand up and volunteer.

Anyone who is/has been in the 'field' has my utmost respect. Fire fighting is serious business.

dude i have been a volunteer for 11 months now and LOVE it. i don't regret anything. BUT we are a small town department so we get like maybe 3 runs a month and they are usually wrecks. i have been through 2 house fires and one big brush fire (2 days long) and loved every minute of it. i will say that hanging with the crew and just having fun is awesome. def one of the best parts. trust me if you join you will not regret it.

Yeah I am indecisive I really want to keep my bike but at the same time I really wana do this and know if I get in a accident it narrows my chances significantly.

Well sell the bike and later you can always get another. You will have the money if you are an EMT or FF so that wont be a problem. They are easy to find so I say sell it.
