I am trying to pick up a SLR Camera... gave my point and shoot away. (stupid camera cost like 1000$) anyways i really like the rebel xsi but i see there is a XT or a T1i or whatever.. i have no idea what im doing but want to learn. would a nikon be better? any help is appreciated.

t1i is a step above the xsi the xt is the lowest end dslr canon has i think

t1i is a great cam to start on and it shoots hd video

I have an XS and I love it, but if I could pick something up that had a video feature I'd totally go for it.

gen.. i see .. is that the only difference? the only other thing i see is 15mp and 12.2 ... also i have no idea about lenses where would i learn about them?

if the only differnce is video then is it worth the extra 300 to get the t1i than the xsi?

Mp dont mean shit unless your going to blow up the pic really big and print it out, stick with a camera that takes quality pics, and/or vids if thats what your looking for. my D40 is only a 6 Mp camera yet it takes very awesome pics, when you get to this stage of photography its mainly about the lenses, thats where you get into the what kind of pics you want to do specifically

so here comes the complication already... i have no clue about lenses but im starting to lean towards the t1i... i guess

idk that camera specifically, but lenses determine the type of pic your taking, like zoom, focus quality, wide angle, close up type things, with nikon the have vibration reduction lenses which are helpfull, there are also multi use lenses but they are going to be alot more expensive, the lense is really what makes tha camera, my d40 with an awesome lense will take better pics than a d90 with a less awesome lense, its just got less adjustable settings, and like i said dont worry about MP unless your making huge posters out of your pics or something

there are some quality point and shoots out there, im not sure which ones are the best, but if you want something to just go out and take ok pics, and have the video capability the id go that way, but if you want to take quality pics and artsy fartsy stuff then the dslr type cameras are the way to go, i dont know much about other cameras besides my d40 so i cant help you there

if you buy the kit, it comes with a lens get used to that one, play around with it, then decide where you want to go from there. Wide angle ( takes a wider shot ), macro (good at close up shots) etc.

yea thats the standard zoom, thats what mine came with, which works fine with what i do, although id likea farther zoom sometimes. lenses all depend on what you use the camera for, so just cause the lens is super cool, doesnt mean you need it for your application
