Some insight....LITERALLY

So my buddy who owns an awesome 6 speed g35 (2003) just moved out in the sticks and now knows what it's like to drive a good distance to work. He previously only had to drive 3 miles to work. He only has 55,000 miles on his car (go figure) and is wanting to trade in his car for a hybrid. He texted me he pretty much has his heart set on a Honda Insight. I'm still shocked he would even think about a hybrid. What are your thoughts? Facepalm? Good vehicle? Better hybrids out there? I really don't know what to make of this.

The Ford Fusion gets 40 mpg, and it's a Ford... make him get that.

Are they re-making the insight? That was back in '99 it came out right? First hybrid to be sold here I believe? Can't imagine that it's as efficient as the newer hybrids. And it looks tiny. I'd say it's ugly, but most all hybrids are.

I completely agree. US News ranked the Fusion Hybrid the best out of all hybrids. If you guys knew my friend he likes 3 things. G35's, South Park, and Halo. Anything else he makes fun of. So for him to want to go to this....WOW. I want to kick him in the sack as hard as possible to wake him up.

His view on ford isn't to good...

whats he worried about miles on his car or gas mileage? G35's get decent mileage.
Tell him to buy a damn geo metro, fuckus, or civic for something to drive back and forth for work.

I think his heart is set on a hybrid. I'm trying to work this one at all angles. A luxury sports car to a 4 banger hybrid...this isn't sitting right...

I like where you're going with that...but he's trying to keep it around the insight's price range.

How much does an insight cost? Are they easy to find? I never see them on the roads here. Can't imagine they sold that many during that time?

Does he own the G35 out right? If not, what are his payments?

I'm willing to bet that the payments will be more on the Insight than the G35 and that will offset the fuel savings. And if he changes cars, he will be going from a pretty cool car to a gay ass, uglier than a can of smashed assholes Honda.

Hybrid is stupid, period.

No he owes on it. He put a hefty down payment on so it's worth more then he owes. His payments will be slightly less...and will be getting 20 more mpg on regular gas as opposed to premium (roughly 30 cents per gallon less for regular).

On slightly better...less fail news (still fail. I told him to at least look at a turbo'd 4 banger so he could at least have SOME fun still), he's going to the ford dealership right now to look at the fusion hybrids. I told him to see if they can change the "leaf" crap on the guage cluster (to show you how economical you are) and replace them with different faces of chuck norris so the better the gas mileage, the more chuck norris round house kicks global warming in the dick LOL

well. he pulled the plug and got the insight. It's not AS hideous as I thought. I guess it's nice on the inside. The fusion was like $9k more then his. Yeah...IDK about this one. But as long as he's happy....

upon further evaluation....it's a step down. he knows it. but he drove 50 miles going out and drinking. And even with a mild buzz...i'm pretty impressed his gas level hasn't even blipped below the full level. I'd be at or slightly under. 39 miles per day drive to work and back would probably break me to get a more economical vehicle, too. But from a g35 to an insight...damn. I'd probably do a scion tc with most of the interior amenities as a g35. Not an insight with absolutely nothing. I mean this thing doesn't even have power locks on the passenger side.
