Interesting Stuff. *boredom assistance*

Yeah so I love reading. And I'm currently reading a book about a man who found and recovered treasure from the SS Central America, a sidewheel steamer that sank off the coast of North Carolina in 1957 carrying 600 people and 15 tons of gold, gold that was being hauled from the California gold rush to the east coast.

Which renewed my interest in shit like the ocean.... so just fumfering around on the internet, I found this interesting stuff on the Challenger Deep, in the Marianas Trench.

Interesting stuff if you're so inclined.

FYI, the book I'm reading that got me interest is called Ship Of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea if you're so inclined.

Amazon.com: Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea: The History and Discovery of the World's Richest Shipwreck (9780802144256): Gary Kinder: Books Amazon.com: Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea: The History and Discovery of the World's Richest Shipwreck (9780802144256): Gary Kinder: Books

i remember when i read about the first 2 guys to go all the way down to the bottom back then and half way down they heard a load crack only to find out that it was the observation windows that had cracked a little. they still made it all the way down but couldnt stay long not only cause of the crack but they were there to investigate life but when they hit it spewed up dirt and did not settle down cause there was no current down there.

Another interesting fact.... did you know that, IIRC, that 80% of the "dirt" that is down there isnt dirt but actually remains from animals current to thousands of years back just piling up.

I wonder if they have that show in HD. I love that kind of stuff, but if I watch too much of it I start to think wayyy too much about earth and space and I get all paranoid.

I'm sure they do.

In what way do you get paranoid from watching such things Gene?

well, Its mainly the shows on the History channel, that talk about how we are "due" for certain catastrophes Like volcanoes blowing up, or the earth switching its axis, etc.. but if I sit around and think about space too much, I start to get anxious because its still relatively "unknown" to us.

Anxious as in if you think about it too much, you think a catastrophic event will take place?

I think it's awe inspiring to learn about things like this. And the more we learn, the better off we are at being able to survive things.

anytime that I learn something new I sit and ponder about it for awhile and go from the past to the future with the subject that I have just learned.

Its kind of hard to explain. The universe is huge and earth is hardly even a speck of dust compared to the rest of the things in " ouuuuttterrr spppaaccee "

( you have to say it in that echo-y 1950's Futuristic voice)

If the earth is a mere dust particle then we ourselves are nothing more then mere atoms in the greater concept of all things being.

This can turn into a real philosophical subject

Hey Zip, I dont know if you have already done so, but if you are ever bored you should read up on the Large Hadron Collider and how they are trying to hunt down the "God Particle" the end all be all particle of life and existance. Ive been following up on it for a number of years now when they first started talking about it.

THAT MACHINE I can't think about, I completely understand how amazing the potential the machine has, but the only thing my brain thinks about is how it could potentially create a black hole of sorts...

Yes we are. That's what makes it so awe inspiring and interesting.

I know. I feel the same way.

However. You can actually go do that for a living. If you put your mind to it.

Me, it's a little late. I'm 40 and have a family. But if you're 20-ish.... anything can be done.

The first step to ensuring your failure at something is to say "I can't."

The type of men who do these things and explore not only don't say "I can't", they look "I can't" right in the face, and plan for any obstacles that might get in their way so that they can keep moving towards their ultimate goals.

I have a firm policy about worrying about things that are outside my control, so unless you have a way to plug a volcano or hold the earth on its axys, then I probably wouldnt let it bother you too much.
