The funny thing is that around here the kids ( I mean like 12 year olds ) that come from nice homes are the little thug wanna bes, while the kids who come from the less fortuanate homes are perfect gentlemen, use sir and ma'am, shake your hand and say hello when they meet you, ect... I have no clue how this works...

Spankings are okay if you don't go over board with them. You don't have to hurt the kid. It's the fact that you're doing it period that is enough to scare them. And if it's not, then you have to figure out what is. Usually it's taking away something that's important to them. Like their damned XBox!

that is 1 thing my kids are not getting until they're a little older. i didnt get a game console until i was 12. now a days kids spend too much damn time inside in front of the idiot box. i want my kids to go out, explore and enjoy the world

Funny enough, last summer I was out walking my dog after work in the neighborhod and some little kid about ran into my dog with his bike. So I merely mentioned ( in a polite and adult tone ) that he should pay attention to where he was going. Well his response to that was "Screw You". I was only a block from my house so I dropped Jack off back at home and walked back out, found the kid about a block later and escorted him to his parents house. Only was I more shocked to hear the parents response. The mom said " So?" Like "Screw you" is an appropraite way for a 14 year old to address an adult. I swear, stupid people never cease to amaze me. Just when you think you have seen the dumbest shit ever, something comes along and blows your mind.

Amen to that. When I was a kid, I left the house when the sun came up, maybe came back for lunch, and didnt come home for the night till the street lights were about to come on. Kids just dont understand the value of playing outside and getting excersize ( and we wonder why the obesity rate is going up ).

I couldn't agree more with what is being said in here. I was one of those kids who got spanked, or the wooden spoon as a child. Although at times I have shown otherwise.. I have respect for my elders, for people, and I know how to conduct myself in a civilized fashion. I have manners, and proper etiquette. I cut loose on the forum, and while on the xbox, because I'm relaxing with friends.

The youth of today has lost its ties to traditional discipline. My generation (21-29) is the last of people who were raised proper.

the sad thing about this statement, its our generation thats screwing up the next. its like we forgot how we were raised and dont care what our kids do.

I mostly blame this on the generation game. Our parents were strick with us and held us accountable for our actions and we vowed that we wouldnt be like our parents and be the cool parents. But the problem is, by being the cool parents your more focused on your kids liking you than raising them the way they are suppose to be raised. Now Im not saying that kids arent suppose to like their parents, but you cant not disipline them because you want to stay on their good side, which I think is what happens a majority of the time.

This same principle goes for smoking and divorces as well. I know I would be more likely to hold through a rough relationship if I had kids because I remember what its like to have parents go their seperate ways and all the hardship that is put on the kids ( not just then, but all the issues with having to rush around every holiday to spend time with both parents, always feeling guilty because you want to treat both parents equal, then the ever present guilt trips that are unknowingly put on the kids ). Its show that things seem to yo-yo between generations...

its funny you say that. cause i always remember thinking that i would never be like my parents. but now that i'm in my 20's its more a friendship thing w/ my parents and i completely agree w/ everything they did raising me. yes it sucked at the time, but im glad they did what they did.
